I'm still messing around with the surface preset sound at the 24 hour point.
There is One possible concern I have heard and noticed:
The keybed on my 88 key Kronos is making a lot of squeaky /clicking noise especially in the lower 3 octaves. It is very distracting right now as you may have guessed.
If it doesn't stop making keyed noise then it will have to go back.
This is the first time I've had this kind of noisy keyed problem on such a very expensive professional keyboard! Yikes!!
I hope it's just noise from a breaking in period some keyboards go through.
I don't think it was dropped or anything weird like that either because the box showed no signs of abuse;also it was doubled boxed up with the K88 box inside a larger keyboard carton box with tons of bubble wrap balloons and cushioning surrounding it.
Time will sort this out ..I hope.

The RADIAS still has the edge over AL-1. I'm finding little things that are missing. For example, I can't find for the life of me the "Analog Tune" parameter that's present in the other VA's on the Kronos (and on the RADIAS). I REALLY use that when making leads and pads. It's just not as powerful as the RADIAS IMHO.synthguy wrote:Mac, as a synth guy who has to watch you lucky people from the sidelines for a few months - hopefully only a few, I'd love to get your impressions on the sonic differences between the Radias and AL-1.
Oh, and do tell us when you try poking in that two gigs of ram!
Hrm... anyone want to contribute to a synth addict's nasty habit?
Technically, EVERYTHING sounds awesome on the Kronos - even the GM sounds.

I haven't looked too closely at some of the AL-1 parameters, but there is a section on page 184 of the PG called "Randomizing Frequency for an Analog feel" and I think each osc can be tuned independently. What does "Analog Tune" do on the RADIAS?

*Update of a previous noisy keybed post*
....24 hours later.I'm happy to report my Kronos88's keybed has stopped making noises now! Yippee!! I'm loving the feel of the keys too.My hands are moving blindly to all the right notes with ease.Cool!
I guess it just needed time to loosen up it's action or whatever.
Who knows- I don't care as long as its good-to- go now!
Now it's upward and onward to concentrate on making some good music.

"Analog Tune" randomize each voice's (remember that analog synths having each voice which can independently go out of tune) tuning. You can set it to a not noticeable minimal amount to a HUGE amount like when you first turn on an analog synth and it hasn't warmed up.BillW wrote:I haven't looked too closely at some of the AL-1 parameters, but there is a section on page 184 of the PG called "Randomizing Frequency for an Analog feel" and I think each osc can be tuned independently. I read that page (thank you for that) and I can now stop looking for that parameter which I am AMAZED that it doesn't exist since it exists on the RADIAS, PolySix, and MS20. *ALL* synths should have this parameter, not just VA's. Detuning the oscillators, which the PG suggests, just doesn't cut it.

Analog Tune on AL1: Check out page 217 of the Parameter manual. Check out the STOP function on the LFO. Should be able to use an LFO with a random waveform to do the Analog Tune.
Haven't got a Kronos yet (or even on order) but spending lots of time in the manuals and the forums.

I was going to mention that, p-buzz. I tend to use tricks like that on one OSC, or voice if I'm programming a rompler. Use it sparingly, to alter the pitch just a cent or two. You can also send that to the filter in amounts to taste to simulate different voice cards aging as well. I tend to only do that to one OSC and filter, and just slightly, or the patch sounds out of whack. Which is great for a special effects patch, but subtle effects work best in general for me.
I do remember people mentioning in the raging days of the OASYS that the Radias was its own beast, and engineered to have its own sound, but it's nice to hear from a sharp-eared owner of both. I think only one OASYS owner had both and kept his Radias, but I couldn't find the thread for it. Just having a bunch of knobs is enough for me to keep it, but those few parameters it has that make it unique have been serving me well, so I doubt I'll ever do anything but get another.

I had a family emergency that kind of knocked me on my ass. I'll start looking for an exact match soon. I will order it and slap it in there and will report back pretty soon. If someone can find a exact match at a great price, let me know and I'll order it ASAP.synthguy wrote:I'm aware of those.
Buuut..... has anyone tried adding two gigs to their Kronos yet? Nudge wink.

I found those on the web many times. I'm not saying this is the best price. I'm just showing that they are available on the web.McHale wrote:If someone can find a exact match at a great price, let me know and I'll order it ASAP.

are you going to write new OS to recognize it and take advantage of it ?McHale wrote:I had a family emergency that kind of knocked me on my ass. I'll start looking for an exact match soon. Why? Are you positive it's not already supported or won't be in a future update? What's $30?GregC wrote:are you going to write new OS to recognize it and take advantage of it ?McHale wrote:I had a family emergency that kind of knocked me on my ass.
