padKontrol - Midi Playback indication in Ableton Live

Post by Buleriachk »

Hi, all,

I'm using padKontrol to trigger drum racks in Ableton Live (8.2.2), but when I play back a midi clip, the PK pads don't give an flashing indication of the triggers, although the pads in the drumrack do.

Is this possible via normal padKontrol/Live, and if not, do any of the PK products provide the ability to see the MIDI playback on the padKontrol pads?

Thanks,

Chuck

UPDATE: There is a way to do this with the PadKontrol by itself. All you do is create a separate MIDI track in Ableton Live, assign the "MIDI From" to the track with your midi clips, and the "MIDI to" to "padKontrol MIDI out", and set the Monitor to "In".

Also make sure the MIDI channel in Live agrees with that in padKontrol; Channel 1 is the default (which is what I have it set to at present), but Channel 10 is drums (I may change this later).

(You don't want a drum rack in the new MIDI track - if you put one there, it will eliminate your "MIDI to" selection, since the MIDI goes to the drum rack instead)

(So far this works; there may be a "gotcha" I don't know about...)
