What are the advantages to adding the EXB M256 expansion card to the M3?

It allows one to load all 4 of the EXPCM sound sets at once, instead of one at a time. Alternatively, it allows you to load more sampled sounds (or more complex sounds) than you normally could.

For instance, if you look at these 3rd party sounds from Irish Acts...

...the Grand Piano mini pack requires 300 MB of RAM, so you would need the extra 256 from the expansion card to get there.

On the other hand, the guitars mini pack only requires 8.5 MB, so the existing 64 MB is plenty big enough (if that is all you wanted to load).

Why can't I read my own post?

1) Increasing user sample memory from 128M to 320M
2) You can load all EXB-PCM sample files provided with M3 Expanded, see http://karma-lab.wikidot.com/korg-m3:lo ... mple-files

Another way to look at is that it increases the maximum sampling capacity from 11min 39sec to 46min 36sec (mono). In addition to loading all the EXB-PCM sounds into RAM at once, the extra capacity also lets you load more of your own samples, add more audio to sequences using in-track sampling.

64mb vs. 256mb? I think it's more like adding FOUR women to your bed.

Coincidentally, my wife does call my M3-88 "the other woman." I have yet to have both in bed at the same time, though.

Anyway, I agree that the memory expansion is a must-have for the Xpanded.

I think it's like expanding your wife's chest if it is small to extra extra large, that would be a better comparison, then adding more women to your bed.

Is there any way to shrink the headphone port from 1/4" to 1/8"?

Well now, how can I refuse to upgrade. :D

Anyways, thanks for all the replies and looks like the vote is in...

I really haven't done much sampling with the M3 but loading all Xpanded sounds would be cool.

Now, if only Korg could add MTC and MMC in the next update I'd be really happy.
