Discussion relating to all other KORG synth related products that don’t have a dedicated section. For example, OASYS PCI, M1, N Series, 01W series, T series, and more…
Ive just picked up one of these puppies and its great!! But for some reason it just keep sending on MIDI OUT and the flashing light on my MIDI-Interface is driving me nuts
Ive tried to go through the settings and did a factory reset but its the same. Im not sure if this is the way it works or if my unit is damaged? Maybe somebody could help me out a bit?

Oki, thanks! Good to know its OK! Was just curious as none of my other 5 synths do this.
Perhaps they don't have sequencers and don't send midi timing events. But everything you do on the keyboard should result in midi events. That's what midi is supposed to be for, events created for everything so that they can be recorded and later sent back to control it.
Just thought that is was strange that the X5DR was sending MIDI even when i wasn't doing anything. So maybe it's MIDI timing events it send as you say, but the only way to make it stop is to power it off
Guess that there is no option to disable it either?
If you're hooked o your computer, try recording the events into a sequence and and see what comes up... It could just be some internal clock that's sending a signal, could be that the computer is sending some handshake protocol that is being echoed in the midi out (especially if there's no thru port), might be some glitch in a continuous controller knob thats sending random notes.
Any of those could be a culprit - determining just what's being sent would go a long way t solving the mystery of why it's transmitting.
Many Korg synths support something called Active Sensing. This sends a constant stream of messages through MIDI. If the device at the other end also supports Active Sensing messages then it will know that the cable is plugged in.
More importantly, it will know if the cable has come out, and it can then react accordingly - typically by performing an 'all notes off' procedure to prevent hanging notes when the cable is accidentally unplugged or the connection in some way fails.
Most devices don't have a problem with active sensing messages if they do not support it as they are just discarded. It also does not typically reduce bandwidth because active sensing messages are only sent between other messages.

Well, i tried to record the MIDI but came up short Couldn't see anything recorded at all. Strange coz the MIDI OUT is constantly blinking.
As long as it doesnt interfere "normal" MIDI I/O then i guess its ok. But if its so good why does not all manufactures copy this feature? That's what im thinking about.
I'm having the same problem with my X5DR, its always sending Active Sensing like crazy and it slows down my MIDIBOX device. If there's no software solution inside the X5DR, I will just make a small switch that turns Midi Out On and Off on the cable itself, before it routes to the MIDIBOX. Them when I need MIDI Out for SysEx, I just turn it on, receive SysEX on SONAR, and turn it off again.

That's typical clock or active sensing (F8/FE messages) behaviour. Nothing to worry about. It is normal.
Hi,
I had the same problem with the keyboard version X5D, it turned out to be a loose screw next to the midi ports inside. The screw held in a back plate which must also earth the midi port or something. Any ways I tightened the screw and the midi light stays off until messages are sent or received.
active sensing is normal, and in most midi interfaces it can be filtered and not showing again. In some synths active sensing can be shut off. Look mostly in system prefs in your synth.
It is not affecting timing or polypfony.
