Creating a CD for the Trinity

Post by 1993rx7 »

I am struggling to create a CD that my Trinity will read. I just bought a CD-ROM from eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0534273244 and I am desperately trying to burn a CD that is recognized. I'll I am getting is that the CD is unformatted. I have burned so many variations, I am out of ideas.

Original owner of a Trinity Plus with PBS-Tri since 1996. Recently added SCSI-Tri module with the hope of avoiding Floppy disks.

Looking for help.

still no luck

Hi SynthJoe, still no luck. Followed the instructions in the TRINITYHD.WRI file using winimage and Nero, but the CD still comes up unformatted.
I pasted in info from the disk that was created below. Not sure if that provides any insight. The CD does not seems to me mountable in Windows Vista. (meaning I can't read it to see if there is anything on it, but cd software can provide info on it)

Disc Information:
Status: Complete
State of Last Session: Complete
Erasable: No
Sessions: 1
Sectors: 274,432
Size: 562,036,736 bytes
Time: 61:01:07 (MM:SS:FF)
Supported Write Speeds: 10x, 16x, 20x, 24x

TOC Information:
Session 1... (LBA: 0 / 00:02:00)
-> Track 01 (Mode 1, LBA: 0 / 00:02:00)
-> LeadOut (LBA: 274432 / 61:01:07)

ATIP Information:
Disc ID: 97m15s17f
Manufacturer: Ritek Co.
Start Time of LeadIn: 97m15s17f
Last Possible Start Time of LeadOut: 79m59s70f

That's OK, Trinity CDs are not readable on any other host. You wrote that you have the SCSI-TRI module - this one can only accept removable media on SCSI ID 6. Do you have your CD-ROM configured to ID6?

on SCSI ID 6

So I found this link:
http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/optical-cd- ... 32TSI.html
for my drive, and now have it on ID 6. It shows up at the bottom of the list of options now in the DISK Load window. I still get the unformatted error. I know there is communication between the Trinity and the Drive because it goes from "NO DISK" to UNFORMATTED".

There are still a few more jumpers to mess with on the drive. This is starting to wear on my patients. I had this grandiose idea that I would keep the Trinity, but now I think an M3 might be in my future.

Thanks,

Did you try to click on <UNFORMATTED>? It is quite common that it comes up as unformatted, but when you actually select the disk, it does read the directory. Wait 10-30 seconds after inserting the disk, before trying to select it - most drives takes several/quite a few seconds before identifying the media inserted. Also, ensuring that SCSI termination is ON on the CD-ROM (if no other devices are connected) would be a good idea. Hope this helps.

No reason to despair or frustration, it is always a bit of a challenge to get it to work first, but once you get the hang of it you'll be good.

Mort:

Enable Parity (jumper it)
Enable Termination (jumper it)
Disable Boot from CD
Enable Eject Button

If the SCSI cable is short you can try to Disable Termination.

Inject folder to the trinityCD image using winimage and burn disk image to CD as a bin/cue. Nero 5 worked for me. Windows does not recognize the drive, but Triton Le does.

If you used the TrinityCD.exe image and Winimage, When you select DISK on the Trinity, the CD label should read EMPTRINITY.

If that doesn't work I have a spare Apple CD300i and enclosure, we can make a trade .....

Thanks,
Sam

Mort:

It looks like your CD starts at 00:02:00
Mode1 for Trinity should start at 00:00:00

This might be your system and burner software.
Try the winimage bin cue method.

Thanks,
Sam
