Korg X5D not working on Mac OSX

Post by Shahe_gregorian »

Hi, I have a Macbook pro OSX lion 10.7. I am trying to connect my korg X5D so I can use garage band. I assume I need a driver but I can't find anything. Please help

This has nothing to do with the Radias or R3 or their counterparts. I've moved this to the 'Korg Synths (General)' section.

Trying to connect via midi? ...to get midi (note) data to control Garageband voices?

If your macbook's like mine you need a midi-to-usb interface and that might require a driver, but the X5D should not be an issue -- midi is midi is midi...

Check the midi channel being sent -- set to 1 or general.

Check that the midi cables are good (functional).

Check the routing (midi out (X5D) to midi in (interface)).

------------------

If you're using garage band (sequence) to control the X5D you need to do the above checks and make sure that you've either set up or allowed the controls necessary to let an outside source use the X5D's sound engine -- and again, midi is midi, the driver should not be an issue as far as the Korg is concerned, but some memory protect, receive midi tic boxes and midi channel assignments in the Global menu might be.

I am connecting it with a MIDI USB to the computer. The midi cable has no issues since I tried it with my korg SP500 to a PC. garage band recognizes the midi but doesn't function at all. How do I check the midi channel?

Thank you

Look in the global menu. Send and receive channels are set there.

I'm not up on issues like data transfer rates (other than to know that that issue sometimes crops up between older synths and newer computers) so you might want to post this problem under the software section here to get more expert advice.
