SV-1 Output Noise

Post by Dorfenator »

I'm getting a terrible "hum" when connecting my SV-1 to the mixer board.
The noise happens when I run both XLR and Unbalanced.
Plugging another keyboard in produced no Hum noise.
The noise is not there when I plug in a headset.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have the exact same problem.

My Nord Electro 3 exhibits ZERO noise in the same environment.

Any solution yet?

I had a similar problem – not 60 cycle hum but something annoying none the less – fixed it by getting a better balance among the SV-1’s gain, the mixer fader, and the mixer trim – the hotter the SV-1’s gain, the less the hum.

Bad board

Post by sgroovez »

I sent my SV1 to the authorized repair center.
I got the keyboard back. Appears to be working fine now!
Here is what the invoice states for service performed:
"Confirmed failure, disassembled, and consulted Korg Tech SUpport; Replaced defective Jack PCB. Secured connections & reassembled. Checked output & operation - bench tested good."

Apparently the part number for the PCB. Output is: GRA0002144

So check into this, it might make things right. Fingers crossed!

We get aterrible hum only on the XLR outputs. I have to use a direct box with gnd lift for a clean sound.

Sounds like your terrible hum is an issue with the ground. It's either in the keyboard itself or most likely poorly grounded electricity where you are plugging in. It would be good to take your keyboard to an authorized repair center just to make sure that your keyboard is in good shape. If it is, you might want to look into purchasing a power conditioner that is more than a glorified power strip. Hope this helps.

I have it plugged into a power conditioner. We have 2. One for the FOH and stage monitors, another for the stage instruments.

I would have it checked out by a repair shop. Have them check the board that was replaced in mine (listed above in previous post), but my noise happened on all outputs, with or without a ground lift. Hopefully its nothing serious and is something that can be repaired.

Has this happened in more than one venue?

noisy sv1

Post by rczinger »

It's permanently installed at our church. The xlr's haven't worked since day one, but since we used the direct box with our old keyboard I just continued to use it. We're pretty disappointed with the SV1. So many patches have bad hum as well. I should have taken it in already, it's probably out of warranty now.

I wonder if the church was the issue. I know in our setup, there are so many ways gear can get damaged from static, bad power, etc. Carpet is bad as you can build up static. Power might not be clean. So many chances of gear going bad from my experience. Odd that XLR didn't work from day one. Also, one thing we always are dealing with is bad cables. Maybe check the 1/4 plugs and make sure they are soldered properly and not frayed and possible contacting the other lead.
