MicroKORG Soundeditor Tascam US-122 MIDI Problem!!!!!

Post by boxlightner »

Can anyone help me PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!

I have a Tascam US-122 portable soundcard running on Windows 7, every other MIDI Instrument I have works perfectly communicating with the soundcard, I have no driver problems at all.

BUT!

When I try to use the SoundEditor I recieve the following message as I'm sure everyone else has,

ERROR: Can't Receive MIDI Message from the Device.

Soundeditor loads fine, recognises the MK fine, but If I try to place new patches on to the MK it just dose'nt happen? it is as if the MIDI OUT from the Tascam won't link with the MIDI IN of the MK?

Do I need to change the MIDI Channel on the MK at all to communicate with the Tascam

please note: The EXTERNAL setting on the MK is set along with the WRITE PROTECT SETTING off

Please, I beg you, someone help me!!!!!!

Are you using an original MK or the MK XL?

Have you told the editor software which MIDI ports to use?

also check your connection from MIDI Out of the micro to MIDI In of the Tascam.

Hi X-Trade

I'm using an original Microkorg :D I checked the MIDI OUT ON TASCAM to MIDI IN ON MK they seem fine, could this be a dodgy lead?

Also, when I check the editor it says:

in[2-us122 in]
out [2-us122 out]

when i click on the either option the editor does not provide another any channel options? do you know how I could work round this?

look forward to hearing from you

many thanks

To clarify what I tried to ask earlier - you need both out>in and in>out connections, the editor needs two-way connection. Try swapping the leads and see if that causes any difference in operation.

If you can, test both controlling the microKorg from a DAW, and sending notes to the DAW from the microKorg.

Your MIDI in/out settings are correct - you should choose the Tascam ports because that is what your MK is connected to.

Being a bit of a dumbass :P what exactly is a DAW?

Thats ok then, I thought that may be the case as the MK works fine with the Tascam if I'm running Cubase or other programs?

a DAW is Digital Audio Workstation software for example Cubase, Logic, etc.

Oh, right! of course!! in which case YES the MK works fine with Cubase?

Could it be a case of not setting the EXTERNAL BEFORE loading the soundedito? OR do I need to chane the MIDI CHANNEL on the MK?

Really appreciate your help by the way :D :D

External doesn't need to be set - that is only for MIDI Clock (tempo & song) synchronisation e.g. when working with Cubase or other gear you want to all play in time.

Have you checked that it works both ways? (i.e. you can record notes from the MK, and send them back to it & have it play them)

The MICROKORG manual says that not all midi interfaces will work with it. I have a HOSA midi interface that cost me 75$, which advertizes that no drivers are required for it. After a lot of kinks concerning soundfonts, computer volume controls, and playback devices, it's working fine. IT TOOK THREE DAYS OF TROUBLE-SHOOTING AND READING BORING TUTORIALS!

I wish you the best of luck because it's a rush to see the notes you play in realtime register on the computer screen in the music-editing program. I use PIANO ROLL COMPOSER because it's a free download and it displays a treble and bass staff. Years of piano lessons conditioned me to see music that way.

My biggest bugaboos are keeping the beat and not making accidental mistakes on such a little keyboard. And it's a lot of grunt-work, laying down one track at a time. I keep having to start over.

Plus I laid down 300$ for the MICROKORG totally for its vocoder. I want to add vocals to my mix but PIANO ROLL COMPOSER won't play back the human voice. Just the instrument. So there's always something!

BEST OF LUCK!
