Drawbar controller support- Cx3 engine

Post by popmann »

So, I'e combed over the manual and MIDI implementation...and correct me if I'm wrong, there is no way to change the CC that is used to address the drawbars of the Cx3 engine?

This is a problem. Why? It doesn't follow what has become a defacto standard for modelled drawbar control. From Voce's V3/MIDI drawbars...to the NI B4...to the Kurzweil KB3 model--the upper drawbars have been adjusted via CC# 12-20. However, here the MIDI implementation shows it starting up around #68.

This means that no one with a Voce MIDI drawbar unit...or a V5 (where they built the V3/drawbars together)...or a NI branded drawbar controller, can use them with the Cx3 engine. They have a B4 "external setup" that will allow the little sliders to send 12-20 TO the B4/Voce/Kurzweil, but nothing to allow the Cx3 engine to respond to those CC#.

I figured there was a chance it would not be straight plug and play like the B4 and Kurzweil was...but, I made an assumption that if it wasn't I could at least program the Cx3 engine to respond to the 12-20 my drawbars send. For sequencing with the computer, I can quickly write a real time input transform in Cubase--but, I'm not taking the computer to gig...nor do I want to have to enable MIDI through just to get controllers remapped.

Anyone have a suggestion of who I would contact at Korg to get this on the "wish list"? This is actually pretty significant to me...I use organ in almost every song/demo I do...moving to using the Kronos will not be a good option if I can't use my drawbar controller.

...or, I'm posting here in the hopes that I'm overlooking something basic, not being used to Korg nomenclature...so, please--point me in the right direction if there's a way to remap these.

Hey Popman. I use a lot of Hammond emulation in the band that I play in. I'm just using the faders right on the Kronos as drawbars. I realize this is not what you want to do but as a workaround it might suffice until someone else comes up with something better. I'm actually going to try putting together a set-up with 2 keyboards to create a 2 manual organ using the Kronos as the bottom manual. So far the only problem I can see is that ir i want to do proper drawbar manipulations I'm going to have to find a way to switch quickly form upper to lower keyboard.
I own a Hammond M-3 and am familiar with having drawbars to access my sounds. I like to "play" them, you know? Grabbing the faders just doesn't feel right but I think that after a little while, I'll get used to it and I'll rock!
If music is the food of love, play on and play loud!
Gear: Kronos 73, Wavestation EX, Polysix, King Korg, Monotron and Monotron Duo, Minikorg, Moog Grandmother, my very old MiniKorg, 4 acoustic and 9 electric guitars, 1 Ibanez 5 string bass, a Steel guitar, a bunch of microphones, 2 pairs of studio monitors and other very cool toys, 1 wife and 4 cats and a lava lamp!
