i didnt imply any equivalence, im just saying those two synths are quite powerful and superb at what they do(although an andromeda would murder the virus in comparison) ANALOG always wins.
and yes i am aware of the vst forms, i personally think that novations doodads are probably the most cheap sounding synths i've ever touched, nonetheless they are good at "ULTRA SUPER CHEESY DIGITALNESS" while a Virus TI can sound like whatever you want it to sound like, the Novation ultranova sounds like a drunk man playing with his amiga music sequencer(not saying thats bad)
but yea, for certain sounds even a synth as candy as the novation ultranova, can be amusing.
The virus ti vst is actually pretty good, but i still think its not as good as the real thing, and i'm not sure why. It just appears to sound better on the real thing.
But in general i despise vsts for being terrible, although i admit, there are quite a few good ones out there like the ones you mentioned.

The Virus VST is the exact same as the keyboard or rack thing. It uses the same sound generation formulas. Call them and have them confirm this.
I also highly, HIGHLY doubt that you've ever played it since you need either a Protools TDM system or a TC Electronics Powercore card. And you would never buy those, because all they're for is crap VSTs, right?
In other words, you're just blowing wind.

i have already reached the conclusion that vsts are bad. but if the person using the vst is good, he can do godlike things with it.
Its the musician that makes the instrument sing, not the instrument that makes the musician sing.
It doesnt matter how bad or good something is, it can be used for something good in the right hands.

It's amazing how derailed this thread got after Morshu descended upon it. Looking back on the posts though, I'm proud of the factual accuracy everyone showed. Couldn't find a single error in anyones posts. People even provided resources like Re-Member posting the Gary Numan link. Truly an educated bunch which is why I like KF.

Looking back at that, I think I was a bit too harsh on him. Wasn't exactly the best forum etiquette calling him ignorant, but I think we all reached boiling point by then.
My favorite was the R3 vs. Novation thread where he tells the OP "Get the R3 or die" but then starts throwing out all these random suggestions like the M1 and TB-303, haha.

Roland Juno-60, SH-101, TR-606, MC-505, Casio CZ-101, Yamaha DX100, DX11, Kawai R-50e // Korg R3, microSTATION, Monotribe, MS-20 Mini, SQ-1, minilogue, electribe sampler, Volca series: Bass, Keys, Beats, Sample, FM, Kick, Moog Theremin
OFF TOPIC but oh well,
The best for me was when he wanted a Pendulum lead and I called him out on wanting to emulate a VST sound on a hardware synth. He back tracked like a bitch lol. All that VST bashing and he was wanting to learn how to recreate them.

Korg R3, Roland SH-201, Roland MC-909, Novation Mininova, Novation Impulse 49, Korg EMX, and a bunch of VSTi's
What CharlesFerraro Said...
Pretty much a straight and clear explanation. When I got my first set of VIs I was pretty impressed how good they sounded.
This cover/interpretation of a Tangerine Dream track is all VIs, doesn't sound incredible but it's not too bad either. I sount if using hardware would make much difference.

A to B test sounds 99+% similar and the less than 1% really doesn't mean much. It is a noise patch though. Easy to reproduce on most synth's - hardware or software. Perhaps I see both sides of this debate lacking in greater perspective though.
First of all, the Radias/R3 is basically a softsynth built into dedicated hardware.
Second, the two things it has over a VST counterpart is its dedicated hardware and its own 'cpu'. That allows the computer to not have to spend greater processes on running it.
Third, a person using it in a forum marked for that hardware cannot be considered the troll (neither am I defending the sprawling posts of either side though). Trolls, by description, go into a site specifically wanting to knock that group. And yes, sometimes they travel in packs.
The best thing about the VST counterparts is they only take up virtual real estate in your studio. Unless you have so many you have to get more memory to handle them all or worse another computer.
When you get down to it; wouldn't this whole thread been more appropriate to post under 'Virtual SoftSynths & Plugins'?
