Just got a Kronos 88
I am a guitarist and I bought this for the sequencer/audio recorder so that the singer and I can record harmony leads and vocals into our midi tracks. I read the quick start guide but it doesn't say how to load in a midi file. I already bought some general midi files but I couldn't resist one that was an XG because it was so well done. Anyone know how to load a midi song file into the Kronos and has anyone had any luck using XG midi song files with the Kronos?

Do you not have a software sequencer?
You won't get to use the best Kronos sounds in GM mode. Much better to bring it into cubase, strip all volume automation...clean up the tracks...bring the MID into the Kronos and assign it to the corresponding sounds-pick your drum kit, piano, bass-whatever from the full programs. Then tweak out each sound's engine.

excellent call popmann.
I started doing this with some 40+ songs sequences I've recorded. Loading them as SMF's then have to assign the right sounds.
I am find that the Kronos can breath new life into the half baked songs I've long since abandoned.

That seems very good advice.popmann wrote:Do you not have a software sequencer?

I would just like to add that you could also load the .MID file into the Kronos sequencer and then do the clean up of the tracks (delete the program changes, volume settings, etc.) with the Kronos sequencer directly if you haven't got a software sequencer or if you don't want to use it.
Midi Files
Thank you all for the recommendations! I don't feel as lost now.
I don't have a software sequencer. The DVD that came with the Kronos says that there is a Kronos Editing program that is a free download but I couldn't find it. Then I saw some posts saying that it has been delayed.
I am a little overwhelmed at the learning curve but the frustration of trying to keep a band together has forced us into this new idea and this machine looks like it has the potential to really make a quality product.
Should we get Cubase or just wait for the Kronos Editing software to be released?

Korg Support
OK, I downloaded the usb drivers for the MAC and followed the instructions so that the Kronos and the Mac can see each other but they still don't communicate. Called the Korg support line and was told that there is only one guy that knows how to fix that and he won't be back until next Wednesday. Anyone know what might be wrong?
