SIMPLE QUESTION - BUT ANSWER NEEDED URGENTLY *** Please Guys

Post by hellboy44 »

*** EMERGENCY QUESTION *** - Need a QUICK reply to this!

I read with Horror about the Specially Formatted Thumb Drives you need to upgrade the OS on PA 2x (and 3X apparently) otherwise you can PERMANENTLY Brick your Keyboard (!)

SO HERE'S MY QUESTION:

Can you use any old USB stick (Fat 32, partitioned or not) to transfer MIDI and MP3 Files to the PA 2x?

Note: these are JUST SONG FILES, not the OS - WILL THIS KILL THE MACHINE IF IT'S JUST FILES???

(Please help - I need to get a new Machine up and running for a Gig Tomorrow with my Old Midi Files transferred across to a new machine)

No need to prematurely panic, hellboy44. Not sure about your horror story, I've used a plain garden-variety memory stick for both op sys upgrades and, quite regularly for several years, .mid files and backups. You can transfer the files to the internal memory, or just play them from the drive, no problem.

Thanks for the reassurance jg, but there was a thread in the (recent) past about how PA3X's have been bricked by non compatible Thumb Drives and OS upgradings (?) not working together well....

(Searching for the thread - wish I could find it!)

One thing I know, it's DEFINITALY a legitimate concern, and as my PA2X loaner (waiting for my '3) is not actually "mine" I don't want to brick it and be responsible for the cost of Repair/Damages.....

*gulp*

Wow, what a bad sounding Keyboard the PA2x is out of the Box!
(Yeah, yeah, I know, you havta Tweak it - just didn't realise how MUCH)

I have to keep this loaner till the "3" arrives in 2 weeks or so....

Had a heart attack at a gig last night when the files from 2(!) Thumb Drives failed to load - they then DID suddenly appear after 30 mins or so - go figure.

(It worked perfectly at home....)

Now to search these forums to find the "How to make the PA2x Sound decent Threads...."

:-(
