Korg KP3 software update fails
Hi All,
Just got my KP3 and its on an old OS so naturally I wanted to do the update to v2.
Downloaded the mac osx version (im on 10.6.3) and held down C,D and sampling. The updater sees my KP3 and says updating, but then instantly comes up saying:
Failed to update
Failed to update the software (-10000)
Has anyone seen this before? Any known work arounds?
I have other USB Audio/Midi gear but have tried with it all switched off and still get the same issue.
Thanks in advance,
John

Korg KP3 software update fails
I got the same message, while try to update firmware. MacBook Pro, 1.83 GHz, Mac OS X 10.6.8
Me too... looks like we've been abandoned with our problem.
I don't think Korg looks at a lot of threads anyways, let alone post a reply!
But as djwazo said, I don't feel I REALLY need to update, so...

If it makes any difference, I have 2 kp3 and just updated both with a MacBook air. The first one went without a problem, the second one gave me that same error. What I did w redo exactly what I did with the first one, and it worked. Basically, I connected the USB, then pressed shift USB, and launched the updater. Then I followed the instructions.
If that doesn't work, do the same thing, but switch from mic to line.
Worked for me

Hi All:
Has Korg or anyone ever resolved this "Failed to update the software (-10000) " error? I've tried everything listed here and then some. I'm using a MacBook Pro w OS X 10.6.8. At first it would take a couple seconds to come back with the error msg; I did some poking around in the OS X utility "Audio MIDI Setup", verified the MIDI driver was there (loaded the latest 1.1.1 (r1) MIDI driver from Korg website); even saw a "KP3 Version Up Mode" box in the MIDI studio window, so its definitely talking. I was able to read and write program banks using the KP3 editor - definitely talking. No matter what I do, it keeps giving me that stupid error msg (although now it does so almost immediately.
What gives?? This is ridiculous that such a simple thing as an update can be so screwed up! Has anyone here been contacted by Korg? Seems this same issue has been going on since June 2010 or before!!?? I hope this isn't a foreshadowing of the level of support to come from Korg. Any ideas???
Peace & blessings,
DonnW

Hi All:
Well I finally got my KP3 updated in a roundabout way. First, I did go to the Korg website and leave a msg for their tech support and lo and behold, I got an email reply with some helpful suggestions the next morning. I actually called in to tech support after lunch (having not yet seen the email) and upon being connected to a technician (Max) he mentioned he sent an email. We talked a bit and went thru some details of what to check and what to try. Very helpful fellow. He did mention that these forums are not official Korg forums (albeit certainly helpful) and the few examples on this post and just a couple others are the only ones that have experienced this issue - so definitely not widespread issue.
As for what to try on my MacBook - I tried it all and then some. Fearing there could be a hardware fault that would require sending my brand new unit back for service, I figured I would try once more but this time using my virtual WinXP machine residing on the MacBook via Parallels Desktop 6. I installed the files from the original floppy (not the latest ones from the website) ran the updater and voila! Success! It took a minute or two to update and all went well. The only thing I can figure is that when I tried things on the OS X side, I loaded the very latest MIDI drivers and such, instead of installing what was on the CD. Anyway, it works now and the experience w/ Korg support was prompt and helpful. I'm assuming most of the cases above tried a different laptop or PC too? Cheers...

Any known solutions for this problem yet?
I have the same error ,my computer is a IntelCore Mac running 10.6.8 OSX...
EDIT:Next morning i tried to do the same in a different computer an Imac Running osx 10.5.6 and it worked! Thanks everybody ,maybe the problem is the SO 10.6.8 , i think, good luck!
Also a small coment i was naming my files like bassdrums 1 bassdrums 2 etc and they didnt work ,but when i start naming them Numbers 1, 2 , 3 , 4 instead of names ,kp3 startted reading the files with no problems. Hope that helps. On further inspection i can see that the Midi drivers are not apperar to be funtioning since i cant get the editor to directly communicate with Kp3 and i cant seem to use the Ext.control mode either.
