Love my Kronos...but

No one mentions the fan noise. I can no longer record with open mics in my (one room) studio if the Kronos is on. It's a pain to have to turn the keyboard off every time you want to do live recording. Then if I need to check a musical line or a chord voicing or do a quick keyboard track I have to wait for the...

Organ sounds are great. It would be nice to see more virtual stops in the editor window for the organ sounds. I also miss the the tube in the Triton
Extreme for distortion sounds. It added some realism to the digital tube-amp distortion emulation, which never sounds very convincing to my ear

Piano sounds are stellar, rivaling the best software pianos; as are the electric pianos.

Synth sounds? Well, it's a Korg isn't it? Unsurpassed!
Drum sounds are excellent.

All other sounds are pretty standard issue as far as current synth workstations, and easily trumped by software-sample based instruments
The Operating system isn't quite as transparent as the Triton, but there's a lot more going on, and I haven't spent as much time with it. This thing is deep. I'll never use all the features.

Overall the Kronos is a winner. However, boot time and fan noise are glaring problems.
I hope Korg addresses these issues.

RIDICULOUSLY LONG BOOT UP TIME, unacceptable really.

What would be a more reasonable boot time? If I'm not mistaken, the Motifs take about 40 seconds or so, but if you are autoloading a bunch of stuff that time can be significantly longer.

I would guess, though, if the fan problem wasn't there, then you could just leave it on and not need to reboot?

Anything less than half the length of a pop tune I guess. I wonder if the Kronos could do something like the resume or hibernate function in computers? That way it might boot faster.

Roughly 2 and 1/2 minutes is a very long time on stage to deal with this.

I know that idea has been raised before. I'm curious (but not yet curious enough to start tinkering) whether the kernel or boot options could be modified to enable that sort of thing.

It could up to some point probably, but only by Korg (unless you have their OS software and needed development tools).

But quite a large portion is loading samples and you still need all those to start (however this is debatable too). So the gain will be marginal probably if you want to have all samples available after exiting hibernation.
