Korg Triton LE - no sound - ERROR MSG displayed - SYSTEM ERR

Post by bluejay »

The other morning I turned on my Triton LE keyboard, the following message appeared:

SYSTEM ERROR.
file:../../source/hardmanager/ckbdmgr.cpp
NG line#168
Error code: 97 decimal 61 hex
FILESYS_BAD_HANDLE
CURRENT TASK ID:0

After switching it off and on - the regular display appeared but NO SOUND.

The problem alernates between the 2 situations.

Same here.

I tried reloading the OS, but the problem persist, i.e., no sound.

also I noted that when I select the GM bank and the press the AUDITION button, I am able to hear the pre-recorded sound. This makes me think that the problem is not a hardware one (like the output card or something like that), but rather a software problem.

any of you have managed to solve this problem?

Same here - exactly the same pattern - the problem started occasionally, then became constant. Audition works. No sound otherwise. When I run a full test at start-up, it says "MIDI: NG" and then says "Error Occurred!" I can't seem to fix it.

Anyone come up with a fix?

First of all I am not expert in electronics so give enough weight to my opinion as you wish.

As the synthesizer was not working and the warranty was over I decided to open it. Somehow I wanted to check if some wires were loose. thought that the problem could be the keys that were disconnected, and that explained why the audition button worked.

the thing is that after open and re-check the wires the keyboard started to work again. I had a similar problem the other day when I went to a gig... then back home I repeated the same process and the keyboard is working again. for some reason shaking the keyboard affects it. Really annoying, considering the amount of money I payed for this item. Will think twice if I want to buy a Korg again.

I have had the same problem two times in a week, and got the keyboard to a service center. After ten days (with no problem at all) they will give me back the keyboard tomorrow, and I am sure I will have the same problem very soon.

Someone has an idea of why the problem occurs? The technician of the service center said that also disconnecting internally the keyboard the reported error does not show up.

Should I use my TR76 as a tea-table?

I have had the same problem twice. My 61-LE is long out of warranty, and I paid to have it fixed at the local Korg repair shop here in St. Louis. Now it has happened again. I am reluctant to spend the money again, only to have the problem develop once more. Other than the open the thing up, close it and hope for the best, has anyone discovered a fix that can be done at home.

These boards were pretty solid in their day, that being said they are getting up their in age. I started having some button issues with mine. a year ago and decided it was time to pony up and replace it. I chose to go with the Korg M50 and have been very happy with my decision to do so. I can still get sound out of my Le it is just difficult to sequence with due to the buttons issue. I have kept the Le after deciding I would be able to get no where near what I paid for it and I now plan to use it as a second board. I must admit though that it really gets little use since upgrading to the M50. The touchscreen on this thing is boss and the sounds are excellent, even the pianos.

Like csteen said, these keyboards are starting to show thier age. The problem could be loose connections and/or components. Take it apart and check all connections. Also over time, some socketed chips might experience something called "chip-creep". Thats when a socketed chip works its way loose due to changing temperatures and expanding and contracting metal pins on the chip. Push down on any chips and make sure they are seated firmly. Or you could pull them out partially and push them back down. Also see if the samply memory and sample board (if it has these) are firmly seated. Try removing and reinstalling. Check for dirty/corroded contacts and clean with a pencil eraser. Also, check the battery (dont remember if this one has one). 9 times out of 10, its something simple. Its time to get personal with your board and know it inside and out! :D

*Edit - As for the button issue, I've had the same problem and replaced some of the tact switches that go underneath the buttons (with the help of my brother who is better at soldering than I am). Problem solved. After awhile these tact switches just wear out and need to be replaced. The good thing is, they are pretty common and you can find them several places online. I'll post the link where I bought a package of them from. http://www.bustedgear.com/part_switch_tactile.html

The same website has some good disassembly photos and also tact switch replacement photos....
