Muting of Tracks in Sequencer (from Combi) does not work?

Post by joonthekeys »

Hi there,

This is my conclusion after fiddling around with this issue and I wonder if someone elese has a different finding.

What I'm trying to do is playing with my live settings but have a MIDI/SNG file (later I will try Audio as well) accompanying me. Since I change in a few songs the Combi for different Instruments on the keys, I like to program this in into the Song i.e. muting the instruments I just used and activitate the others. I succeeded in programming the mute/unmute in the song, but it had no effect, which I confirmed when trying this without the song running. Alternatively I tried to use the mixer instead and I also succeeded in doing this, however when playing the song the volume control is applied all tracks of my instruments I want to play. These seem to be necessarily on MIDI Track 1 in order to be audible.

So my conclusion is that all controlls work MIDI channel specific but not track specific. True?

I just like to add: It is possible to differentiate between tracks and channels. My Triton Ex does this perfectly for me.

I think you can achieve what you want by enabling the checkbox Link KBD/REC Trk to Ctrl Surface found at Play/Rec tab and then on Control Surface subtab.

With this option, you can use the Select buttons on the Control Surface to choose which track you want to sound at everytime, without needing to record or play the Song.

And if you want multiple tracks sounding at the same time, you can turn on the Solo button, also found on Play/Rec tab and then on Control Surface subtab. Also, you may disable the Exclusive Solo menu parameter, found on the Page Menu.

If you want to turn off Timbres while playing, you have to turn them off from the "Track Parameters Page".
They are set to Internal, change this to OFF and it will Mute.

Note:
However, you cannot select Off, Internal etc. while holding down a key.
You must make your selection before.

Hi MarPabl and Lou,

thanks a lot for your quick replies to my issue. I tried the "KBD/REC Trk to Control Surface" Checkbox. At least with my Kronos, OS 1.5 the effect of muting and solo the instruments I want to play have no effect in Sequencer Mode. I can only use the volume sliders. But when I record a slider move on one track it will effect all instruments while playing back.

Using the "OFF" function is not an option, since I can not put this function on a control panel button or record such change. At least I didn't manage to do so.

The reason I want to record the changes is the following. During a live session I can qickly change the Combi or the Set in the the Set List. But during a sequencer song play back it would interrupt the song, wouldn't it?

Can you explain, in detail, exactly what you did on the TritonEX?

I'll give an example. For one song I needed a Piano at the beginning and string, brass and sax right after. The MIDI file gave me Bass, Drums, Guitars and Vocals. So I started the MIDI file in record mode and started with with string, brass and sax volume at o-level. At the change point I raised the volume level of these instruments to the desired point and put the Piano to 0-level.

With this record I could play the entrire song while the sounding instruments changed automatically at the right spot.

Doing this on the Kronos will raise all 4 instruments to the same level. This will only change if I use separate MIDI channels for my 4 instruments, but than I fail to make them audible. I think they need to be on the same MIDI channel as defined in GLOBAL mode.
