Envelope and LFO problems

Post by rbbplmr »

I have the korg r3 but I'm sure those who own a radias could help me with this question too.

Im really new at this so its embarrassing to ask but I'm trying to create a sound that as I play each note it will continue to fade from quite to loud with big cutoff or whatever is needed to make it sound large. I'm trying different wave shapes but none of the shapes are what I'm looking for (i need on that starts low and ends high aka the opposite of a saw wave shape) can anyone help me?

Thanks

Hi rbbplmr

The Radias has a waveshape control which permits changing the wave offering the feature to invert the slope

In the R3 try this: select an init patch (for better hearing what will happen), select the saw for LFO1 with and set frequency to about 1 Hz. Then in Patch1 assign it to AMP level. Now if you turn the intensity pot full to the right you have positive values and you will have the tone starting loud and decreasing. If you turn it full to the left, then you should have it increasing, this means you invert the effect of the LFO1 which is as if you were inverting it's wave. At least it works on the Radias but should be the same on the R3

Now you only need to decide what frequency you want, if it should start with each key press and if it should be synced to the bpm and what you are going to modulate with it (Amp, Cutoff etc.)

Thanks so much for your response. It helped me a ton. A vague example of what I am trying to accomplish is at 3:47 of this song (terrible song but a good example of what I'm looking for) what envelopes would u suggest to get that sort of rise? (I would like mine to be bigger then that) like would it just be increasing cutoff?

Again thank you so much for your help - much more helpful then the owners manual

Yes, the Radias owner's manual is a bit "thin" as well. I was hoping for more in-depth explanations and examples, but...

i have another problem. the sound i am working on seems to be peeking all of a sudden... I have the noise level completely off but there is something in the background that is fuzzy. I'm direct headphones in so its not a connection problem or anything. Does anyone know have a possible solution of the top of your head?

There are many possible reasons:
- Resonance too high.
- Using Cross Modulation.
- Using VPM Modulation.

Check for those...

Or you could just increase the filter and amp envelope attack times. ;) Lower the filter cutoff, increase the filter EG intensity, and increase filter- and amp-sustain accordingly.

Drive/waveshaping?
