Has Anyone Ever Hacked the KP3 os 2.0 update?

Post by SMK »

I have found a site where a programer has figured out how to control a few features on the KP3 by hacking the 2.0 firmware: http://nostromo.noisepages.com/2008/08/08/backdoor-man/

So I am wondering if there are any stellar programers out there that has done the same thing.

What I am really looking for is t to have the slider not control over all sample volume…essentially make the slider do nothing on the KP3 yet still be usable to control an external device via midi. Since the new update allows one to control sample volumes separately, I would like to free up the slider to control the functions of something else with out it messing with the volume of my recorded samples.

Thanks to anyone who can help me figure this out.

Really!?!?! COOL!!!

If you can figure this out that would be great!

You see my list on top (my original post)... if you can figure out how to change internal midi assignments that would be awesome! Please keep me in the loop on your progress. Thanks!

To do like MustakL, you just have to open the system file that is located in the archive with an Hex editor.
The system file KP3.VSB is located in the archive in the folder KP3_Ver2_Updater.zip\KP3_0200_Updater\System\KP3_0200_Updater\Updater\
In the code, the strings naming the effects are clearly readable in the ascii representation of the file, so you can change the name of an effect, which can be funny but doesn't really change the beahavior of the KP.

To change others things in the code, one had to figure out the language used to program the chip of the KP, then decompile, analyze and change instructions, as far as it is doable. Anyway, decomplinig is illegal.

@SMK: after following that link I see that you're after the same thing I am: getting the KP3/Kpro to be triggered by CC# data for the sample pads instead of notes... because triggering the sample pads with NOTE# only and not being able to trigger them with CC# is just plain USELESS!!!!! (well done Korg! :roll: ) If you find anything please let me know.

PS: I cant understand why it is that I hardly ever find fault with Korg gear... but when I do its things that are completely obvious and wouldn't be all that hard correct from the outset

Hi all!

@smk:
is there a reason why you dont use kp3´s external control mode for controlling ext. midi devices? in this mode all buttons, sliders won´t
affect the "internal" kp3 functions.

@punpkomg:
i agree with you.
its not really what you want to do but here a little workaround:
use CC# together with kp3´s sample/crossfade effects to "trigger" sample pads. may this helps you a little bit.

best regards

I'll try that out.. but I was more wanting to use the Kaossilator Pro.. for starting/stopping/holding sampling with a foot pedal that I have (that only transmits CC#) not so much for triggering the samples to play.

I'd like to be able to be playing/tweaking stuff with both hands while punching-in/out with a pedal.. the search continues...

if you are skilled you can wire your pedal directly on to the switch. or even better: make some kind of connector for it

yes that works.. but how will that help me in a live context when i dont have my laptop with me? (and dont want it with me) which is the whole point of using the pedal to control the KP3/KPRO... live
i'm not a mouse jockey =)
if i have my laptop with me I might as well use the pedal with traktor to record loops into sample banks... then i might as well forget about using hardware altogether.

I'm a purist when it suits me =P

I just purchased this from Amazon and am waiting for it to arrive. It might be what you are looking for. There is a cheaper version as well.

I'll do some more research on it to see just what this pandora's box is capable of.
