Kaossilator Pro Gate Arp question

Post by David100 »

I have been using the original KO for two years, and when I bought my KO Pro I expected it to have the preset Gate Arp patterns (as in the original) as well as the slider.
I was wrong.
How can I get predictable Gate Arp patterns on the Pro? I can't seem to work them out with the slider.
I think this is such a silly oversight. It would have been so easy to have included the presets in the Pro and it would have made such a difference to me to be able to note the settings as I used to on my old KO.
I find it so frustrating!

well there is a use able work around for this but it requires a KP3 and really knowing your way around the midi system on both the KP3 and your KO Pro.
Then there is effect management with the KP3 to tackle (see Tips).

Assuming you have a KP3; you set the KP3 X and Y midi out filters to control CC93 (gate time) and CC91 (gate speed) of your KO Pro. Then record your controlled gate movements via KP3 Pad Motion and then save the those motion sequences to any of the eight banks on the KP3. Your KP3 will end up being the Gate/Arp controller for your KO Pro.

Tips: learn to dedicate Pad motion to Gate Arp on the Pro...meaning not using it for KP3 effects.

Turn the FX Depth on the KP3 to the left for No Effect while using the KP3 as the arp controller.

Turn the Gate off on the KO Pro when using the KP3 as effects for your sounds.

This is one of the ways I work with the KP3 to control the KO Pro...I will tell you it is not easy. Good Luck!

or, you can practice and get good at using the arpeggiator, which is really flexible and can provide an infinite amount of different rhythms...check out the first video of mine in this playlist...there are many other vids, but this one shows how complex you can get with arps on the kpro

Thanks for your time, SMK.
I don't have a KP3 yet, so that's out.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'learn to dedicate Pad motion to Gate Arp on the Pro' Couldn't see this in the manual and apologise if I missed it. There doesn't seem to be much about the Gate Arp at all.
My reply from Korg was that the slider provides more flexibility. I disagree. I think it would have been much more flexible with the patterns already loaded - I can't reproduce similar regular patterns just using the slider.
I've resorted to plugging my old kaossilator into the line in and doing patterm work on that. Shouldn't have to though - they were obviously capable of putting it on the Pro, but for some reason didn't. What a terrible oversight!.
Thanks again,
David

But wouldn't that be bad for the slider? I have a KP3 and as much as i like it, I have to say the slider on it doesn't seem to be the strongest I've seen or played with. This seems to be a design issue with the KP3, so I imagine its always the same on the KoPro. I imagine if you're too rough you might wear it out or break it, quickly.

flexibility means you can play anythign you want...preset patterns are the opposite of flexible.

Trust me, just practice, and you will be able to make many complex patterns. It's not as easy as the ko1, but that is the point...this is more of an instrument that you need to learn to play, and less of a preset machine

I love the KPro arp slider myself . . . Think of the K01 arps as the rhythm guitar type parts, and the KPro arps as a great expressive tool for lead guitar type parts, with slurs and trills and hammer ons and pull offs and staccato machine gunnery! Tons of fun, and infinite.

And yes, guitar was my first instrument, lol.
