Soundfont import bug hunting
Today for the first time after my OS 1.5 update I tried to import a soundfont.
For testing purposes I took a small (~2x7Mb) stereo soundfont of a simple sampled one-velocity electric bass sound (stereo multisample, 16bit/44.1 khz - one soundfont sound, no multiple sounds in soundfont).
After loading the soundfont I got no sounding program and a very confusing result:
- in the Global Menu->Sample Manage I could see both the left and the right part of the imported stereo multisample sound listed as files
- in the Kronos sampling section the imported sound (the left part of it) is loaded and I can play and hear it
BUT:
- the Kronos program, where I loaded the soundfont, contains empty oscillators and is silent
- if I then click Osc 1 on the basic oscillator page to load the multisample, I can't load what was visible in the global page: the samples are simply missing in this directory.
Before update 1.5 I got mixed results with bigger soundfonts, but sounding programs were no prinicpal problem, especially among the smaller soundfonts.
To me this looks like a weird soundfont2 import bug.
Can anybody confirm with the help of any little test soundfont?
Any explanation is welcome.

If I knew where to find a good source of Soundfonts, I'd give it a try.
If I knew where to find an excellent source of Soundfonts, I may even be inclined to look at producing an SF2 to PCG converter (If I had the PCG specifications).

I would like to get past "working" or "not working" by looking what exactly goes wrong, when even the most simple small soundfonts written by programs like Extreme Sample Converter or SampleRobot, work as soundfonts on PC, but keep silent when loaded into the Kronos.
That's why I took a closer look.
I will check other examples and perhaps upoad one or two for verification by anyone who wants to try.

Ok, I tried a commercial small single soundfont today, and it loaded without any problems.
The next thing I would like to find out is the difference between these soundfonts: they both were absolutely basic, but one workd and the other not (as described above).
One thing I really don't like is that the Kronos OS wants a combi slot for stereo soundfonts. A program slot alone should do for a simple two osc stereo sound.

I don't think you have to load it into the combi though Jim.jimknopf wrote:Ok, I tried a commercial small single soundfont today, and it loaded without any problems.

It seems that the Kronos automatically loads soundfonts into a combi, as soon as the import program seems to assume that more than one sound font is involved. But a single stereo soundfont should not be imported like that.
Generally, I would like to have the choice to import only one (stereo) soundfont, to only one program slot (and no combis involved at all).
Something is definitely going wrong with soundfont import here, but since I'm no specialist concerning soundfont format, I can't recognize the reason for that.

I tested with extreme sample converter http://www.extranslator.com/index.php?page=exsc and updated sfman32.dll in windows/system32 directory with the version 4.06.501 and my akai cdroms soundfonts conversion work fine in my kronos (kronos seem to be compatible with particular version of .sf2)
