ikaossilator: transfer patterns without uploading to shared

Post by tastygroove »

I need a way to transfer my save files from one idevice to the other without uploading to soundcloud and sharing with the whole world. (Have had limited success there anyway.)

After spending hours building a great library of original patterns... I'm now quite concerned that I might lose or damage my ipod and lose all that work.

Recoding to a wav isn't adequate, because I'm building these patterns to be mixed with each other while improvising leads.

In an ideal world, I could share with another idevice via Bluetooth or WiFi.

Private on Soundcloud?

You can always edit the soundcloud files to be Private. Works for me!
Not sure if it uploads as "public" by default or not.

Every time you upload anything it gives you the option for private or public.
But make note that with a free acct on soundcloud, you are limited to approximately 2hrs of content. You get more as you go up the pay ladder.

The website doesn't mention if jailbreak is required.. And also, requires an update version of os x.

Work arounds aside, would love to see it as a native feature.

One of the issues is that a single remix I do might have 20 save files. In total I have hundreds. The process is too painfully slow and often fails on upload. Fine for in a pinch, but support for this in the app seems like a no-brainer.

So got Ifunbox has access without jailbreak.. Now the issue is it doesn't look like it is just a simple save file. There is an index, and no names just unique identifiers (huge file names.)

I'm seriously doubting I can just copy them to another instance of ikaossilator "just like that." obviously, you can't even identify which is which.

So, nice thought and doable for raw backup of one device, but not at all a workable solution unfortunately. I am impressed with Ifunbox though. No jailbreak needed, worked great on my daughters win xp netbook.

Definitive answer on Ifunbox. Nope. Not going to solve my situation.

There is a plst file that describes each of your saves. If your pattern file isnt on this list, it doesn't appear in ikaossilator. You might be able to merge these lists between two devices if you have unique save names (not all untitled) but its doubtful since the list details the date and time of the patterns also, and when dropping files into Ifunbox the date of the file is rewritten.

Could this be used to take an install and copy it to another device? I think so. Unfortunately all of my devices already have ikaossilator installed with save collections on them. Boo.

Re: Private on Soundcloud?

I tried this.. It doesn't work. When an upload is marked private, the loop data does not appear in the shared folder. I uploaded 4 files, two marked private, 2 public, one set of each from each device. With both devices logged into the same soundcloud account. Only the files marked public appear, regardless of the fact that share loop data was selected.

What's worse is that it appears loop data remains even after deleting the track from soundcloud but this is inconclusive. I deleted a track, and now it appears on the device I first viewed the track on, but not the other. I deleted another track after having viewed them in shared folder on both devices (but never selected or opened them) and they still appear on both devices.

So, it appears as this is not the solution. It looks as though if you want to move it between devices, it must be a public track. Once you make it public, anyone who had it appear in their shared folder (regardless if they opened it) they now have it forever.

So, fail on both posted solutions. KORG, can we get these feature now?

Follow up on Ifunbox

Post by tastygroove »

What a great tool they have with Ifunbox... So awesome to have access to the file system without jail breaking.

Anyhow, I borrowed a friends iPhone. Downloaded a fresh instance of ikaossilator under my account info. I used Ifunbox to first delete the the documents folder on the fresh install, then to replace with my backup of the documents folder.

The patterns transferred successfully! Woo hoo!

So, as long as you aren't trying to merge collections, this is a great way to handle this. I backed up nano studio, beatmaker, etx while I was there.

I will eventually follow up again. I'm going to try to edit the property list file to merge them(next time buddy is over with his iPhone.)

Cheers!
