The basic sound is ultra simple. It should only take a minute to make, if you know how to build any synth sounds at all.

The hard part is the first 1-2 seconds of the sound on that track, when the note goes from low to high, because it wasn't done with a synth but with a special audio effect called TapeStop. TapeStop simulates the sound of any music that is slowed down or speed up as if it was being played on an audio tape that is physically stopped and started. So the original synth sound is what you hear after that effect is used, which is the part that's easy to reproduce.

So to get that final result you need to make the synth part, sample it, run it through a TapeStop effect set to do only the TapeStart sound, then sample thet. Unfortunately, you can't do all of this with just a synth.

You could modify the synth part to glide from low to high using a number of techniques, such as with portamento, but it won't sound exactly the same as a TapeStop effect. Search TapeStop on youtube to see various ways this can be done in a DAW program, such as using the Glitch plugin.

The tapestop effect has become a popular gimmick for several years now, particularly for vocals. That makes it a fad that has just about run its course, like AutoTune. You might consider that using a played-out effect might not be such a great idea at this point, but that's up to you, of course. I only mention it in case you didn't know that it's overused.

Hey thanks a lot man. Yeah I mimicked the actual effect pretty well and then used a glide. i also tried raise the punch level on an arp on timbre two to give it that clicking sound. sorta worked... lol I'm pretty new to all this.
I will def take your advice and look into tapestart. How would tapestart work during a live performance in realtime with an r3?

Thanks again

glad to help! I would use my SP-404 to do that effect live. It can do slowdown & speedup of any input music source, so R3 >> SP404 >> mixer/PA would work fine. You wouldn't need the newer SDcard model SP404 either, and the original 404 (or 606, 555) can often be found at value prices. I've seen 404's for well under $200 in the states. The 404 has a lot of glitch FX derived from the Fantom FX. I think the miniKP and KP3 can do it too, but I'd have to experiment to see how well they can work for TapeStart.

I've found the 404 to be a great match to add sampling + FX to any basic synth. It's great to have 200+ samples + live sampling at your finger tips for lots of glitch possibilities. Have fun playin!
