I understand the concern. These workstations are complex and a performer should have a backup plan. There is too much at stake.
If my livelihood depended on it , I would have a 2nd Kronos. If not possible, have the Extreme ready to go.
Well I'd have a backup Kronos too, but in the real world this just isn't an option for everybody. Having said that, my K is gigged constantly, and stability wise it's been rock solid. I've yet to experience a lock up or crash of any kind, before or after the OS upgrade.
thats great. My 88 has never locked up. Having a backup of some kind is strictly a comfort factor, like having insurance.
Today, my printer died. its 2 years old. I have access to another printer for my business ( I have my own business). A year ago
my mac locked up. I had access to a 2nd mac so I don't miss a beat, figuratively speaking.

I have not had any crashes after the upgrade BUT that is not my point, my point is that we all seem to be a target for a crash sooner or later by the looks of it. It seems that all the Kronos seems to have a fault in them that seems to have been an accepted thing by the owners and the company. The response from company representives are that, hey just send your Kronos to your local service point and have a good day. Instead they should look closer into why this is happening cause who is to say that the new Kronos you get from Korg or whatever don't have the exact same flaw.
So, you had some crashes and they were fixed by Korg's 1.5 update. It seems like Korg addressed it in a very significant way. Dan has also been very active in a lot of the recent problem posts. Many of those recent reported problems have turned out to not be related to the Kronos at all. Things such as bad Windows drivers and corrupted SNG files. That's not to say that crashes don't happen. You run that risk with any complex electronic device.
I'm not saying that your concerns aren't valid, because the Kronos launch has certainly been a bit shakey. I'm just suggesting that it may not be as bad as you make it out to be.

I'm sorry that you encountered a difficulty. What happened, specifically?

In the interests of linguistic and statistical pedantry:
I read people stating "I'm lucky, I haven't had any problems"
To this I say: No! If you haven't had any problems then it's got nothing to do with luck. What you have is is something that works as it should.
To be unlucky (IMO) you would have to be one of about 5% of people ~2 SD (standard deviations)in a population sample (of ALL those who have bought said item) with a recognised and defined problem (like the keybed) - and given we have no idea of the ratio of inherent problems to overall sales the whole issue of good (or bad) luck is a non-starter.
Kronos 61 & KK KARMA / Triton Ex c/w MOSS and TR KARMA / MS2000 / Radias / Kaossilator Pro & Kaossilator / Korg Kontrol 49 / Nanopad / Novation Nova / Waldorf Blofeld
Line 6 Flextone XL / Line 6 POD XT / Roland V Bass / Ampeg Portabass & Cab / Assorted Guitars (no whammy bar) ... and a Fender Champ ...
I've never had a boot failure, but one time (on 1.04), I did have it on for about 2-3 days at one point and came back after being away from it for a few hours and it was frozen. I shut it off and rebooted (after waiting about 30 seconds) and haven't had a problem since.
My old Motif, on the other hand, froze several times (at gigs) and I had problems with the VA card falling out of tune several times (at gigs). I want to know when Yamaha is going to address that....
Really, this is a shame, how unfortunate for you guys with defective boards and also for those of us who have waited and then had to pass because of these build issues -- Worse, korg has done a piss poor job admitting failure in the production of what should have been the best workstation yet -- I'm still waiting and hoping a new turnout of the Kronos 88s with ZERO defects will appear, but with no real affirmation from korg, how can our faith be restored? I've relied mostly on korg over the years with complete faith, but this stonewalling is creating the erosion of the trust we were accustomed to -- We need to hear more than "call your service center"
