MIDI help - TR88

Hi
I have my TR connected to PC via USB-MIDI. I've edited a combi and set one timbre's status to "off" but it is still sending a note-on messages to my PC. I've made sure that these keys are in the key zone for that particular timbre only (no layer). The parameter guide says (p.36, 3.1-1a): "Off: The program will not sound. Nor will MIDI data be transmitted.".
Am I missing something or is it something wrong with my keyboard?
