New RH3 on new SV-1 BK?

Post by FunkKeyStuff »

I just joined this forum to ask a specific question: I've heard conflicting reports on whether the new black and reverse-color versions of the SV-1 come with the "new improved" RH3 keybed, or the original that caused so many problems. Can anyone here give a definite answer one way or the other? The answer will essentially determine whether I replace my '09 model SV with a new one, or start looking at other options.

I got an answer from Korg, and thought I'd answer my own question in case anyone else has the same question in the future: unfortunately the "new" SV-1 still has the old RH3, not the new version that the Kronos now ships with. I suspected as much when the high-res-photos showed the same uneven spacing we've all grown to know, but it has now been officially confirmed by Korg tech support.

So much for upgrading to a new one. Now the cynic in me is wondering if the "revamped" SV-1 was anything more than a strategy to unload a bunch of the old keybeds they still had lying around.

Ah well, here's hoping for an SV-2 (with the new keybed and Kronos pianos and EPs) at NAMM 2013.

I just bought an '09 SV-1 88. It was demo in a small music store. I got it really cheap. One of the keys was sticking so the owner gave me a great deal. As it turned out, Korg honored the warranty. When I got it home there was more going on than one key sticking. Something had broke loose and there was an entire octave in the bass section that was pretty messed up.

I was hoping for the "new" RH3 keybed as well. You're problably right, they just might want to unload those older keybeds. Who knows. Is there really that much difference in the new keybed?

I would have thought the reverse key edition would be a newly constructed RH3 keybed, unless Korg already had it planned in the wings to release a later model during production of the original RH3 Beds, and had these limited edition keybeds stockpiled.

if not then surely these reverse models have a newly made one built specially for this limited edition release??.

Given that this has been in the SV1 Editor since day 1, I'd say it was a planned release:

I have gear - I think.

I just checked,

Yes - it's still there.

Tried out the new reverse key edition (88 keys) in a music store, with the intention of buying it to replace my old SV1 with the cutoff note problem. Unfortunately it had the same problem (even worse than mine)....
