hissing when usb connected ????
Hey everybody i have a R3 at the moment and when i connect to the computer via USB i get a low volumed high pitch hissing sound. Whats weird is that this happened to me with not only the R3 but with the XL and Radias AND also on a diferent computer. So to avoid the hissing ground loop sound i use the midi in outs and have them goto my interface. Do any of you have the same issue when u connnect your synth to the computer via USB ?
I want to get a XL and have my midi controller go to the XL's midi in. But in doing so i would be forced to connect the XL via USB in order for the software editor to work.
Is there something i can get to avoid the hissing ?
Thanks for your time

Hi Jondis,

this is an usual and common issue with USB and Audio. Some possible but not necesarily definitive solutions could be:
- - Try using another USB cable, if possible one with a ferrite on it (those cilinders near one or both ends)
- Connect the power cords to the same multi-outlet extension instead of different wall outlets
- Route the Audio and USB cables separatedly instead of bundling them together
- Use the shortest possible cables for each signal, avoid long loops

Re: hissing when usb connected ????
I have the same problem with USB noise on the Radias and on a bunch of other equipment when i plug in USB...Its not the normal ground loop noise, but a strange high freq chatter thing....but there is a solution...USB isolators! They work with most devices, but more importantly it works with the Radiasjondis wrote:Hey everybody i have a R3 at the moment and when i connect to the computer via USB i get a low volumed high pitch hissing sound. If only i could get the darn Korg usb drivers to work so i could use the usb for the radias...but that's another problem all together so i too just use the midi I/O

I get that too when I connect my R3 by USB when recording from my USB connected A/D unit. If this happens with a range of synth's and audio interface modules, it seems to be a generic problem. Doesn't seem to happen with my microkorg with standard MIDI, so I might try that with the R3. The USB isolator look interesting.
Re: hissing when usb connected ????
6months or so have past since i last tried and i thought i would give the radias usb another go as i now need more through put to the radias as i;m chocking the midi in with those long sysex msgs when i changing lots of parameters quickly with my new Lemur Radias template...muttlee wrote:

so i removed all my radias usb instances with USBDeview and unistalled the korg driver what i had and tried the latest driver, but that didnt work... so removed and uninstaled again but then cleaned out every korg related thing in the registry (i run win7 64), restarted and installed an older korg driver ( KorgUSB-MIDI_DRV_PC_1_12r2 ) that i've had previous success with and it worked again!!! bit off topic, but as it now turns out, i'm not getting the usb noise like i previously did! i've got my usb hubs configured differently from before so maybe that got rid of the noise loop!

Hum noise
To jondis and all affected
I also had this issue with all my audio equipment while connected to a USB on my laptop.i I notice that if I use laptop without being pluged to main AC adaptor it disappear but this is something I could not accomplish on my desktop pc and also battery life is not that great,so I made research and bought little device called behringer Micro hd hd400 which needs to be pluged after your sound card to your speakers and it is working great.so far I didn't notice any quality change(well I using Samson rubicon speakers so I'm not sure about more expensive speakers)
So end of the day I'm happy and I can plug any USB devices and as many as my computer can handle.
(I even try it all the way round, I plug my laptop internal sound card output to my sampler and then from sampler to my speakers and that make that noise even louder but when I used behringer hd400 it was gone
Hope that helped

I bought an Art Cleanbox II to break the ground loop. Works Ok, albeit with a small amount of insertion loss. Using standard Midi instead of USB Midi also works on the R3 (and doesn't require inserting anything in the audio path). Another option (not tried) would be to use an active DI Box and plug into the mixer's balanced XLR inputs. This latter option doesn't provide the true galvanic isolation, that a passive DI box has, so might not cure extreme cases.
