Oasys 76 Synth Action keybed
Hi,
Are there any controller keyboards out there with the same keybed as the Oasys 76? It has to have Midi sockets & psu (not USB)
Cheers!

Try Fatar Controllors/Studiologic,the Keybed of the Oasys and many korg workstations are made by Fatar,so probably the closest you'll get is one of those, not aware of many 76 note controllers only out there with the Korg Type action, even (korgs)own controllers don't have semi weighted feel, but they only go up to the 61 keys
Many of Novations controllors have semi weighted but AFAIK they don't make any (if at all)76 note keyboards and most are USB(but can be PSU powered too)
maybe consider an older M/T or 01W/Triton series workstations or something if you simply want the Keybed action, probably may be just as cheap as some of the more high end controllers

I hope I remember correctly, but as far as I know, the OASYS-88 has a custom 88-Keys keyboard, designed by Fatar and produced exclusively for Korg.
The OASYS-76 instead, has the same exquisite Yamaha 76-Keys keyboard (designed by Yamaha) that Yamaha also had to offer on their own flagship-synths, during the time period, at least before 2005...

The OASYS 76 has the Yamaha FS synth action keybed, which is no longer manufactured.
The FS synth action keybed can be found in a number of older Korg and Yamaha keyboards including:
-- Korg Triton Pro (76), Triton Studio 76, Triton Extreme 61/76, Trinity, even back to the Korg M1
-- Yamaha Motif (Motif, Motif ES -- 61 and 76 key products) and tons of earlier Yamaha pro keyboard products.
Beginning with the Yamaha Motif XS and now XF, Yamaha uses a lead-free version of the FS keybed which they call the "FSX". This was done to adhere to the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS):

To answer your question, to my knowledge no "controller only" product has the same quality of synth action keybed as the Yamaha FS (or FSX) action.
Many people like the newest Korg synth action keybeds (on the M3-61/73 and Kronos 61).
Your best option for getting a high quality synth action keybed would be to buy a Motif XF or Kronos 73, or a used Motif or used Korg.

Afaik, since Korg uses 73 instead of 76 they are piano weighted keys, all 76 were synth action keys (stopped since Triton I think).

I updated my post. You are correct that only the Kronos 61 has a synth action keybed.michelkeijzers wrote:

I have an Oasys 76 which I would love to convert to a weighted keyboard as I don't like the synth action - too soft for me. I have a friend who works for Yamaha music who enquired about a weighted version of their FS keyboard, but they didn't make one.
The Oasys 88 has a Fatar weighted keybed installed and uses a different interface board, as the switches are in a different electrical format than the Yamaha FS keybed.
To convert to weighted I would have to find an Oasys 88 interface board and a Fatar keybed, either a 76 note or maybe an 88 note and chop down the keybed. If I ever get around to doing this project, I will have a spare 76FS keybed for sale ! Sadly it probrably won't work in many other synths as the switch arranegment of the keys is different.
