out of the box - out of tune

Post by pike »

Hi

just bought it ! very happy. but as i tried to play along with a tuned guitar, i noticed it was pretty much out of tune. held a tuner next to it, and yes. doublechecked with two other tuners, and yes. its too high.

i can finetune it down using the function key and treble. but when i turn it off & on again, it goes back to the wrong tuning. testing with piano 1, which is in tuning curve #2, "grand piano 1 stretch". set it to the equal curve, same thing.

i read i can change the master tuning permanently using the software, so i guess I'll try that tomorrow. i'm rather amazed though. anybody else had this ? should i worry ?

If you use the editor on your computer you should be able to fix it permanently.

Yes,most of the global settings like tuning etc will only remain in memory after a power off if you set them via the software editor first to be retained inside the SV so it stays the same after turning it on again.

I had this with the midi channel number assignment,it would only stay set to channel 8 once I had set it via the parameter in the editors settings,Even though I had to do it manually on the front panel I wondered why it didn't retain this, tried it with editor and it stayed set,you only need do it once then everytime you switch on it should stay set until you change it.

Very strange .. the next day, the SV-1 was perfectly in tune. I haven't been dreaming this - I have a witness :-)

Yes it has happened to me once, normally I have the SV on everyday,it did it after a week or so of not being switched on,this was several months ago but haven't had a repeat occurence since...

I had a similar incident with the Oasys piano samples, this I beleive was due to me upgrading the RAM,happened a few times with the samples going out of tune,it never did it prior to installing the RAM so decided to remove the ram and reseat it again and its been fine since..

Obviously the SV doesn't have the option to expand the ram,so it can't be down to user error, maybe its how the Multisamples are mapped/Tuned according to the tuning curves at power up perhaps it suffered a hickup on the bootup procedure.
