Just bought a SV-1 and the keys are stuck

Post by ddot »

Just opened up the SV-1 Box and noticed that the A4,G4, F5 keys are stuck...like frozen and can't be pressed down.... we didn't want to apply any force, is that normal??? Did i miss some instructions for a lock???? did something happen during it journey to the store???

Should I take it back and try to get another one?

The only thing I would try is to hold the keyboard with the power plug facing towards the floor and shake a little bit (not a lot). From what I have heard the keybed is floating of sorts. I read someone else had a similar issue and moving the internals by oriented as I have said freed it up.. It was said to be caused by shipping. If that doesn't work definitely take it back. It shouldn't be doing that.

I know this thread is several years old...but I have the same problem.
I just opened the box and 5 of my keys are frozen...from middle C downward to B,A E and octave E.
Has anyone tried this shaking the inverted keybed with success?
It feels as though something has jammed the keys and is preventing them from being depressed.
I love the look ,feel, and sound of my Sv1 ... but would love to play the instrument 2 handed. I don't really want to ship it back to Sweetwater, so what are my options?
Thanks All :?

This tip did work...however I had to vigorously shake the keyboard in all directions to get all 5 of the keys to release...(nervous about this)... I love this keyboard now!!! :D :D :D

Frozen Keys

Post by smackers »

I just set up the new SV-1 73 key w/black keys and also have two frozen keys. The low D and F. Tried to shake it accordingly but with no joy. Very frustrated. Will popping the back off void the warranty? :x

For the final frozen key on my Sv-1, I had to lift the Bass side up about six inches, while upside down, and bang it on the floor!
Also, try the "banging technique" toward the back while still upside down.
I would not recommend opening the back, as this is definitely a warranty issue. Since our Sv-1s are under warranty, then do not be afraid to get physical with freeing the keys...Korg has built them tough...after all they are built for the rigors of touring!!!
If this dos'nt work then you will have to let a Korg technician work on it , however it worked for me... Good luck and keep us posted!!!

YIKES! You are the brave one. I really gave it a good shaking yesterday to the point where the innards were moving about. I'll have to get the courage up to get even rougher with it. Really hate the prospect of a return. Thanks for your response and I'll keep you posted.

Yes... Sometimes you have to get "smackers" with it...
:D
I was pretty worried when I got "physical" with it, however, my reasoning was that since it was new...if it broke...I would get a new one or get it fixed.
This is an issue that Korg might want address, in case some of the new Sv-1 owners cannot find this thread.
Enjoy your new Sv-1 ... It is such a joy to me... :D :D :D

I have owned the SV-1 for almost a year now and ran across the problem of stuck keys after storing the keyboard in an upright position, on its end, like I have stored every keyboard I've owned. Almost half the keys do not work when I set it up after a few days stored on end.

First, I took it to the authorized repair facility and got it back and it worked, but had the same problem again and I took it back and told them to store it overnight on its end and see what happened. After doing that they were able to replicate the problem and said they had never seen a keyboard before that could not be stored on its end. They contacted Korg who told them not to store the keyboard on its end. I mean, this is a portable keyboard isn't it? Or, maybe it is not.

This is bad because all Korg would need to do is document that the keyboard cannot be stored on its end. That would help customers to know if they wanted to buy it or not.

Anyway, after months of trying to get Korg to do something about it, the final word from the top echelon management is that this is the way it is and they have not changed anything with the new black keyboards.

My dealer is so nice he offered to take the keyboard back and exchange for anything else I wanted. I tried the NORD, but you know what, I want my SV-1 and if I don't find something else suitable, I will resign to keeping the SV-1 and simply live with having to let it set out flat for a half day or so until the keys come back to play.

Rotten deal, but maybe someday Korg will fix the problem, but I don't have time to sit around and hold my breath.

I may buy a NORD just to have something to play on while I'm waiting for the SV-1 keys to become unstuck.
