Chad9477 is totally right on everything: "get organized in advance." This NEEDS To be stressed. Don't just go up there and wing it with pattern changes and such. Re-organize your patterns on the EMX into a coherent set with movement. Here's a good example of doing this with dubstep:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HKFsqx3TJY
I agree with having a sheet of notes. On my equipment table used with my EA-1/ES-1 set I have two notecards taped to it with the pattern numbers of a song (I use multiple patterns for my songs) and the song names, and then next to that I have the type of drum beats with their corresponding numbers. Cheat sheets are crucial.
Have connectors to plug into ANYTHING you may need to plug into: RCA/1/4/3.5/XLR. Hey, be prepared to actually solder wires together, just in case.

You could always try rebuilding the set from the ground up and creating transition patterns. Maybe an 8-bar noise sweep with a ramp LFO to sound like sidechaining, or something similar? A lot can be done for transitions.

In a dubstep set of mine I have all 5 parts as sine waves. One is a bassline and one has a random pitch LFO on it and it has a mod delay for an airyness to it. The other 3 are in the mid range so I essentially have 4 meolodies and a bassline. I have the 4 melodies pushed into a short delay that is turned off at first and I create a buildup with the time setting of the short delay by playing with the time control. I'll set the PATTERN SET to the next patern that's just a nasty distorted mess that hits really hard and I'll play with the time to create a buildup to it, and it works really well, too.
Sorry for the wall-of-text example I got carried away.

But anyways, best of luck!

An old thread but an interesting question...

I had my first live performance a couple of weeks ago -- I used an EA-1 MKII as master with an ES-1 MKII and an Alesis Micron as slaves. Worked out pretty well. (I've posted a re-creation of part of the performance here: http://soundcloud.com/mickeyzero/palind ... ce-parts-1 -- it's not dance music. You've been warned :D )

I'm in the process of transitioning to an ESX-1, mostly because I need the expanded sample capacity. I miss the simplicity of the ES...

The EA-1 controlled the program changes on the ES-1 (but not the Micron, and so far I can't get it to work on the ESX either), so that's one less knob to fuss with. The patterns on all three are matched (so EA 01 = ES = 01, etc.). Each pattern more or less transitions into the next -- some are the same patterns, just with added parts in order to build up songs. I used the Micron primarily for live/improv, although I also used the EA's pads for that too. But each "song" is different.

So it's essential to have good notes on what happens when -- I did practice somewhat, to get comfortable with it, and I can imagine if I play this set often enough, I'll get it memorized. But there's a heavy improv quotient in what I'm doing too.

I plan to add a Mini-KP 2 soon, although I'll probably use its mp3 capacity to just work off prerecorded songs, rather than use it on the audio chain of the other boxes. Maybe I can rig up a patchbay that will let me do both.

I haven't used the pattern set yet, but that will be really useful for when I want to change around the order of my patterns, without fussing with the boxes.

Oh, another thing, the performance was during the daytime -- light is your enemy! Impossible to see what's going on with the electribes when there's too much light. Even inside the house, it helps to pull the curtains.

So true!

My roller shutters (weird word, had to look it up) are also shut when I play my Electribe. Otherwise, it is hard to see if a step is active or not.

Last gig was outdoor... but at night... they had this spotlight on the DJ booth to put some light on the machines, turntables, mixers, etc..
Naturally, first thing I do when it's time to play is turn away the spotlight as I can see the EMX LED

I was in a cage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Cs3LraT ... ture=g-upl

The idea was that, as we sold off bits of the painting during the performance (we sold quite a lot, but mostly after the show), the windows would let people see me.

But because of the sun, I had to hide behind a curtain.

Isn't there a wish list somewhere for the next Electribe generation? Will there be another generation?
