"Radias SOUND" bypasses cubase?

Hmm.. how to explain...

Radias is set up fine, I can use the librarian software via USB - fine
I can set up a midi track in Cubase and as long as I set it to spit out MIDI note info on "RADIAS SOUND" then I'm fine... Radias spits out audio into my soundcard, I can record it - fine

What I can't seem to do is to put (e.g.) a hi pass filter on the input channel in cubase and sweep it to affect the sound being recorded by Cubase. I am pretty sure the routing is set up in cubase, it's just that whilst it will record onto an audio track fine, it goes there dry and comes out of the main outs, bypassing anything in the signal chain that I want between the radias and the audio track onto which the final audio is successfully recorded.

Any ideas? My midi keyboard is plugged into a midisport 4x4 IN port D, and I have a midi cable from OUT port D into the Radias' midi in. If I pick Midi Sport Out 4 in cubase to take my keyboard playing into the Radias then the midi monitor in cubase goes mad, levels fluctuating wildly.

This has nothing to do with the Radias and everything to do with Cubase and/or your recording setup.
The MIDI port you are using ('Radias Sound') can't possibly have anything to do with your ability to apply effects to the sound in Cubase. The MIDI track is telling the Radias what to play, and it's playing it, then your audio interface is capturing the resulting sound and (hopefully) recording it to a separate audio track.

The normal way to do this would be to record to an audio track and then apply insert effects to the audio track, after the recording.

If your interface is passing the Radias audio straight to output ('monitoring') then you'll need to turn that off. Then you can turn on 'monitoring' on the audio track in Cubase to hear the Radias WITH the Cyase insert effects. But there will probably be some latency.

If it's set up right then you won't hear the Radias at all when playing unless you have the little speaker icon lit up on the appropriate audio track. What that does is passes the audio input through the effects and sends the output of that to the speakers in realtime, like when you are playing back the track,
