You can merge loops, adjust levels on KO2, in a way...

So since I begged for this feature, I need to reveal its existence. The audio recorder built into the KO2 is the key.

With saving loops and the audio recorder, you effectively have a way to undo changes (save your progress, reload saved loop if you don't like what you added). So that is nice and old news, I know.

Another way to approach this... Build something you like on loop one. Audition your next layer on loop two, delete loop two if you don't like it. If you DO like it and want to merge the two loops into one (bouncing the tracks I think is the term) you can use the cross fader to set the level of the new layer (loop 2) relative to your saved work on loop one. You can then use the audio recorder to record the combined output and save it as a file. You can then load this saved recording into one of the loop tracks and keep going.

So you really do have the ability to 1) undo; 2) bouncing / merging tracks; 3) ability to adjust levels of effects.

may seem a dumb question, but how do you load the recording into a loop bank. Are you changing names/moving file on PC to do that, or can you do it on the fly?

You just hit func+bank button, then navigate "up" out of the loop folder and into the recorded audio folder, then select the file that is there.

So, when you use the audio recorder, it saves your recordings as WAV files in a different folder. You can navigate to this folder and load files saved their into either loop banks.

So, you get two good loops on your two banks, play them together. Hit "func" button to get to audio recorder. Record the length of the full loops (they will be merged to a single file). Then load this in into one of the banks - you have effectively bounced the two banks down into one. It is a pain in the butt way to do it, but at least it is possible.

so the problem is to start the recorder just in time at the beginning of your loops and stop it @ the end of them?

what happens if the recorded loop is longer than the 8 beat or just the beats you have choosed?

if you load the audiorecorded file into one bank does the ko2 stop playing the loops like he does loading saved loopfiles?

I was worried about this too, but after you hit rec the KO2 will not start recording until beat 1 or 4 of an 8 beat loop. If you hit rec between beat 1 and 4, it will start on 4. If you hit rec between 4 and 8, it will start at 1. It does not automatically stop recording but it doesn't matter since you can only loop the first 8 beats. Just make sure you stop it somewhere after recording the whole loop to save space on the SD card.

By the way, thanks MisterP for this great tip! It's invaluable in my flow since I'm building patterns by layering in audio from a monotribe. The only thing I need to figure out now is how to quickly scroll up and down in the file loading menus.

ko2, img stage mmx-2 usb and a korg sos (got this for 40€) everything works with batteries so this could be a fine setup

wok, I had gotten an SOS a while back and will now use it on the K2 to record those last tracks where having the undo option can be nice. Just curious, and partly because i'm not familiar with recording onto computer; audacity etc. where does the sos fit in your setup? Will you use it like i am for last tracks from the k2 so you can undo and then send that file (from sos card) to audacity? Pardon my ignorance but it would be interesting to hear how you use the sos and audio interface.

Upon loading the merged beat, it is always in 4 beats.

I find using this inbuilt recorder that it doesn't record the begining of the loops. You hit record and get the "Working.." screen and on play back I've only get the tail of the first beat. Are you saying that this start point is 'quantised' and I have to hit record before the loop point?

The recorder does seem to quantize to beat 1 and 4 of an 8-beat loop. I haven't tested on a 2- or 4-beat loop, but I'm guessing there is only one quantize point on those, the beginning of the loop.

So if you want to start recording on beat 1, you should press the rec button before the loop gets to it--I would recommend around beat 6 or 7, but anytime after beat 4 is fine.
