Ain't nobody arp intro on Kronos

Post by TonyP66 »

I would like to program the arp intro of Ain't nobody from Chaka Khan in my Kronos. Wat do you advise? build midi tracks or tweak Karma?

I prefer to have two buttons on my nanopad. one button to trigger the first loop and the other button to trigger the second.

My first gues was to make two midi tracks but how can I trigger them from my pads?

Any help is welcome.

We play this song and I've got a combi for it and its pretty close! I've got a 3-way split across the keyboard with the arpeggiated bass on the left and the layered synth sounds and strings to the right. The sound I use for the arp is Int E075 Leading Sines with Karma using GE 0002. The Karma run zone is from C-1 to D#3.

Nice job man. Hard to get a full appreciation like you said, though I always appreciate it when guys try to really nail the sounds when doing covers!

You could trigger them using the RPPR function. Not sure if those can be assigned to pads? Someone else might know.

Hi Narf, really cool and thank you so much for the instructions, even with a video! This comes really close. Thank you.

@navydave, I will dive deeper into the RPPR function. I didn't use it yet.

cool guys! thnx.

Ya, RPPR works pretty good. You can always step record the individial notes of the ARP into the sequencer and then assign and have them loop around (or play through once per hit of the button). I use that function for the song "Shake it up" by The Cars. I play the bassey synth and organ for most of the song, and then trigger some RPPR's assigned on the lower notes of the keyboard (I assign one key for each small pattern) for the high synth lead patterns playing in the background while playing the organ parts with my right hand. This works good as long as the drummer gets the tempo right

I've been doing it with the sequencer this whole time!!!!! (mainly because i still haven't had the time to sit down and work out how karma works.....)

this was the first patch i programmed on my kronos, and it was defiantly the selling point for me because no other synth i had tried this song on could come as close to the recording as the kronos.

on my patch , i've split it 6 ways i think?? strings, poly synth, guitar, intro synth sound, marimba there might be a 7th, i can't really remember unless I'm playing it!!

either way, it sounds magnificent with the sequence running. the beauty of the sequencer is that i can add in the little marimba hits and everything while i play the riff. the band really gets a kick out of it!!!!

does anyone have any idea what the original synth was on that track, just that intro riff???

I don't know but if I had to guess, it sounds like a Prophet 5. Sounds like a MOOG for the bass.

Looks alike a Yamaha DX-7 in this live vid http://youtu.be/FsT0_D-z2NA?t=1m29s (Maybe use a clavinet patch from a DX-7 and load it in the Kronos?)

Nice job. Sounds pretty close to me. Seems like there are two version in two different keys on the youtube videos.

ye, our band does it in em, so I've got it set up that way. if I'm playing it in a band that does it in another key, I've got a transposed version aswell.

clavinet can definitely cut it live, i think I've got a clav layered in my sound. theres like a honky sound in the background though, thats the only sound i can't work out!!! maybe i'll try and get my hands on some old synth gear and do my best at sampling it

Hey CTravaglini,

What patch are you using for the synth bass?
