MicroKorg Automation in ableton or any other DAW?

Hello everyone , i have just aquired the xl that i swaped with the old microkorg ,as the sound editor was a bit complicated for me ,and i really love the sound editor interface with the XL , more close to waht acess virus or novation products does, only problem is the automation.
Remember I am a newbie here , but i have tried to lokk everywhere ( certainely not the good place) but i can't find a way to automate the parameters of the korg form my DAW or either the sound editor interface, and that's a bit annoying cos i'd like to bring some variation live but to be able to record the midi data if i want to correct them.
I imagine i got to know form my DAW how to route the audio and midi, i can only play notes from the moment from my daw or either the MKxl but can't record the midi notes or messages.
Has anyone succeded to go through that and experienced the pleasure to record live automations and parameters?
