Loading samples from SmartMedia card onto Triton LE

I recently bought a Korg Triton LE and I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to put own made samples or other samples from internet onto SmartMedia card then play the samples back on Korg Triton LE from SmartMedia card even though there is no Sampling board installed. Is this true? Also, can the Triton LE read wav files?

Yes, this is true, but you will need to install Sample Ram to load the samples into. Also, you will not be able to edit them at all. But for loading premade samples, it works fine. You can install up to 64MB of RAM, just make sure you read the Triton's documentation to make sure you get the right type.

I don't know about the LE, but I tried this with my TR. Without the sampling board installed you can only load and save .pcg files (via the memory card) and also they can be edited later on. But to load and save .pcm the sampling board is required.

All the PCG files format are compatible and interchangeable with the Triton series.

I'm assuming the TR and LE are the same in this respect, but admit I only have direct experience with the LE.

It absolutely is possible to load PCM Sample Data on the LE without the sampling expansion installed, but there are a number of limitations as I mentioned:

1) You must install at least some compatible SDRAM to load the samples into.
2) It is not possible to manipulate the samples in any way. Any loaded samples must be in native Korg KSF/KMP/KSC format - it is not possible to load WAV or AKAI samples without the sampling board.

As Wikipedia says:

At a much lower price than the original Tritons, the Le was nevertheless a commercial success. The on-board sample RAM can load samples from the Smartmedia slot, without the sampling board fitted.

I have done this before I got the EXB-SMPL, but to be honest, it was pretty limiting. Having the EXB-SMPL makes life much easier. Although for a few commercial or must-have sample libraries, it is quite practical to forgo the EXB-SMPL.

Once again, not 100% sure if this applies to the TR, but would be surprised if it didn't.

I am actually thinking of upgrading my TR with the Sampling board. Will research here on the forum about the power. Am pretty new with the TR infact this is my first Korg. The more I spend time with it the more I am loving it. Thanks for the info sir !

New here, thinking of buying a tr61 off my local craigslist, but the seller says the board does not have the sampling upgrade.

So, provided I instal some RAM and I am able to convert/load my samples to the SD card as Korg's KSF/KMP/KSC format, will I be able to apply the filter or adsr to the samples and save them?

i have the sampling option and ram installed but when loading a native wav it says somat about can use wildcard ?* etc then says file unavailable why is it doing this?
