Kaossilator 2 loop length

Post by tubamancha »

I was surprised the default setting for loop length on the Kaossilator 2
is 4 beats. It's easy enough to change each bank to 8 beats but it doesn't stay there after you turn the K2 off and goes back to 4 beats. So that's a little annoying. Is there a way to make the 8 beat setting the default?

Overall i like it alot though; (had a K1 for a year or so) Maybe a few less bass and a few more mellow enya type sounds just for more balance. Better yet another 50 sounds would have been nice and could have afforded a little more variety.

No, but you know you can just hold down bank I or II and give a quick scroll to the right to change them? Just checking. It only takes a second.

I agree on the sounds, 50 or 100 more would have really helped. I would have cut a few of the bass FX for others. I guess because Korg basically tailors these to the needs of DJs/hip hop now and bass is more important to those users.

Also every sound should be linked to notes, I don't like that a few aren't. Those are small complaints though.

excellent, thank you!

no, you're right, small complaints and not really complaints so much as suggestions. i did think that about the k1 though too; wishing it was a little wider in scope with the sounds.

yes - it is easy to sort with the short cut (hold bank and scroll). Other settings are rememebred with saved loops.

I would like to know some more "shortcuts" to be honest, like how to get to the cross fader intsantly.....

another solution is to insert a sd card make your preferences and store them on the card.

starting the ko2 you can load your preferences directly from your card!

so it is very easy to store different preferences on the card and load them into te ko2.

oh you mean just saving the preferences by themselves as a song file?
....and subsequent tracks you then record would be at those settings too? I'll check that out, thanks!

There was a commenter on one of the youtube K2 demo/jam videos and he was commenting that he wants to get two of these. I can see the attraction of wanting to have 4 banks but would there not be a synching problem? It looks like the 2 banks on the K2 now toggle themselves back into sync so they're not off the beat but the 'other Kaossilatior' would have no way of staying in exact time...or would that not be a problem at all?

Of course the same guy was saying he also intends to get 2 minikp2s...so maybe he either has a little obsessive buying disorder or works for korg.

----edit; actually i'm thinking that as long as both kaossilators are at the same bpm they should stay in relative synch...as much as you hit the button on the beat that is. if that works well, maybe i want two kaossilators! if korg wants to send me another kaossilator2 and i could run some field tests.

nice! I just got my kaossilator 2 yesterday so i was up a bit late last night! I've been looking at youtube and had been messing around with my K1 recently (somewhat because i had gotten an sr1 sos recorder which now is useful in another way which is having it as an option to record onto with the undo option back in place.) ...but now that i have it these questions about settings and files...that is, thanks for the feedback and really good idea.

now the only thing missing from the screenshot of your files is the ability to click and play them!

there is a menue loading files
you can go faster to it, when you press the snd and then 5 times the fnc button (reversemodus) then choose load and choose the file you want to lload.
the ko2 stores always both banks as you can see and he is always loading both banks.
and you are not able to choose a name for your files. someone wrote here, that you couldn´t change the names on the computer, the ko2 will not identify them.
you shouldn´t change the datastructure as well, it seems, that the ko2 has its own filesystem.
you should take a look to the "higher handbook" , you can discover some tricks there.

really, 5 pushes the reverse way? I read about that, reverse but haven't tried it yet. I think it's 10 pushes the forward way so sounds good! i was thinking though yesterday after diddling around for the first hour or two that a couple more 'easy' buttons might have been nice; like a file access button and they did take away the scale button didn't they?

I remember reading a couple of weeks back, maybe it was here, someone saying that the new K2 sounded alot better than their K1. i wondered why this was and actually why it does seem to be the case. Is there a different sound producing...bits per second/rms or something that is superior over the K1 or have they polished some of the sounds in a way. When i did some comparison recording, my K2 recordings did sound noticeably better just soundwise...more variations with the patterns also help alot with the final dub but the original one now sounds to me a bit like it looks; kind of tin canny...still i was hoping to crank them both up so i hope the improvement in the k2 is not too noticeable!

you can press as well the fnc button and then move your finger along the ribboncontroller you will come faster to the load section.
pressing the snd button and the ribboncontroller you can move trough the main sounds

i can´t tell you anything about the differences between ko2 and ko1, because i don´t own a ko1.

but i hope that some features and sounds will be added with the next firmware update.

it seems some ko2 have the 1.05 and some the 1.08 firmware the fixed some bugs what is not specified.

edit say
the fastest way to go to the load save menue is pressing the fnc button and one of the bank buttons the menue appears.
