It's futile to try to immitate electric guitars or basses on a synth. The below link shows you *very basic* rock bass playing.

No keyboard instrument will ever be able to emulate even such simple bass playing, let alone the tone.

Eh.... I hear you, but you can come pretty close. I still say its all in how well you understand the dynamics of an actual bass player, and also what you use to control the patch.

As one example, have you ever played around with Spectrasonics Trilogy? With the right samples, and a good understanding of bass playing, you can make some VERY authentic bass lines from a keyboard. Plug in a guitar controller, and I bet you can't tell in many cases. I'm not saying you can do everything a bass player can do....but you can do a lot of very authentic sounding articulations.

Karo is working on an electric guitar EX library for the Kronos .

It's confirmed, but i have no idea about the release date .

RonF I agree with u. I play by ear & by feel so when i'm playing basses & guitars on my keys I feel like i'm playing the actual instrument & I come close 2 the feel of that instrument some people actually think i'm playing a real bass or guitar.

Just as Scarbee has been the software reference for Rhodes, Wurly and D6 sample sounds since years, or Eric Persing`s Trilogy for bass sounds, it seems to me, that we now have such a software reference for electric guitars as well:

Keyboarders can never replace real guitarists, but I can confirm that it is definitely fun playing these guitars. They are heavily scripted and not just convetional sample sets though. And they have very useable overdrive besides stompbox emulations. With this package I have no more problems to do complete band arrangements including eguitar parts in a way not insulting your ears with funny bad guitar sounds.

Well, my POINT is that people should stop trying to replace those who do the job for real. When I want a real good SOUNDING drum performance, I get a drummer to play my electronic drum kit.

When it comes to getting GOOD guitar sounds out of a keyboard it will always come close (like getting 5 out of 6 numbers in the lottery), but it will NEVER happen. NO KEYBOARD - can model the tip(s) of my fingers nor the pressure they provide for the vibrato, etc. Plain and simple. I can't truly sound like a GOOD keyboard player because at best, using all the fingers on my right hand, I can only get five notes at once using my guitar synth while a keyboard player can use all ten fingers.

I like the Robert Fripp sensibility - "The difference between me and other guitar synth players is that I'm not trying to sound like anything." I love guitar synths for the playing the synth sounds - not the samples really. When it comes to guitar sounds in a keyboard, it's 4-5 out of 6 lottery numbers. Close, but no cigar.

I play guitar and pretty much agree that this applies to stringed instruments. There is simply a large amount of variation that creates that unique string instrument tone. The performer is the key to that tone.

I had the XS and while it has 100's of guitar sounds, there wasn't anything close to creating epic guitar performances/performers.

I would say its more of a acoustic guitar problem...vs electric guitars.

And while im here I'll ask this, what do you all think of the electric guitars in the Roland xv series (or jv)
