Brilliant news! :D

I've had the K for a year now, and I still get blown away by what I can do with it... I've barely touched my other keys, and once V.2 is out I may even consider having a sampling frenzy on the Fantom/MO6 and wave goodbye to them - a second Kronos beckons.

The reason is that from each sample a fixed amount of the start of the sample has to be remain in RAM before the SSD catches up while reading I assume?

If so, it's a very neat solution; and it saves a lot of RAM memory this way.
Correct.

A good example of VMT hard at work on a massive piano would be.....

If you take the 1.6GB piano rs.felicio uploaded a few days ago and you set that to stream, the actual amount of RAM you need free is only 75MB.

lol... How amazing is that. 1.6GB becomes 75MB :verycool:

Sharp.
Yea this is insane....1.6gb turns to 75mb. That's not even 4% of what is should be....(1.6gb= 1,600mb 5% of 1,600 is 80) Imagine the possibilities....essentially 3gb of space turns into ........ how much space. Someone else do the math. Lol.

I just know its crazy what they have given us. This is awesome.

...and it's been available in software world since year 1998 when Nemesys Gigasampler showed up. Hardware world took long enough to catch up for sure this time :)

I wouldn't say that its been a real need though before now.

I tried to install 4 Gb RAM with Kronos OS 1.0.8. In that case 2.5 Gb RAM was available for samples. Why we can't have the same RAM size with OS 2.0? The rest of RAM doesn't matter, but additional 500 MB RAM may be important, especially in my situation. Using VMT, these 500 Mb can become 5 GB of samples...

It is only a software limit, as I understand.

Because the OS (Linux) supports 'only' 3.25 GB.

Yes, but if you install OS 1.6, the RAM its then limited to 3 Gb and you loose those 250 Mb.

Yeah, I've been curious why it was capped at 3GB. Seems arbitrary. 250 MB is quite a bit to lose for non VMT type samples.

The 3.25GB Max ram has to do with the x86 architecture. (32 bit)

Anytime I see mention of this issue on these boards, I am reminded of the whole argument many moons ago about continuing to use XP or to upgrade to windows 7 64bit.

There is no easy way to explain it, and I wouldn't even be able to give a simplified version why if I tried.

Google it.

AFAIK, the mobo in the board is x86 only, and not 64 bit ready or compatible.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake. But it does not change the situation. Would be great to use additional 250 Mb RAM. These 250 MB can become 2.5 Gb, using VMT.

Kronik wrote: Seriously looking forward to V.2, as user streaming has been No. 1 on my wish list from the day I bought the K.

MonoPoly EX is No. 2 on my list...
Exactly the same here.

The last days of waiting while everything is prepared for carrying over some nice sample sets are felt like weeks.

And yes: the MonoPoly EX is no. 2 on my list as well, because it would be the only EX which would allow me to leave even my Moogs at home (while carrying some of their sounds as samples in the Kronos) and still have a warm sounding plugin well suited for Leads and Basses, with a great user interface.

@Sharp, IF you can tell us:
Will OS2 give us 3.25 or 3 Gb of 4Gb RAM?

Of 4GB ?

Sorry but I didn't install an additional 2GB chip. I went with an additional 1GB chip because that's what KORG said the system supported and I did not want to risk any unknown stability issues by installing more than the system was designed to take.

Sharp.

There's no Mono Poly inside the KRONOS, none has been announced either.

There is a Poly Six inside though.

Yes, but it only takes a moment to turn a normal sample library into a VMT library. It's very quick and very easy.
