Second SSD after OS 2.0

Post by Darmin De'flern »

I just purchased a 120gb Intel SSD drive. I was just wondering is there anything I need to do or any extra cables I need for this to work when fitting to the second SSD drive bay after 2.0 patch.

That is will it have to be formatted differently to work with the Kronos etc. I assume it should be easier as I am not trying to copy all my files due to the fact that I am keeping the original SSD in place.

Thanks in advance for any answers!

If your going to do this yourself, you need 4 screws that fit your SATA Drive and you will also need a SATA cable. The power cable is already inside the KRONOS.

When connecting the SATA cable of the new drive to the Motherboard, double check that the factory dive is connected to port SATA 0 and that you are connecting your new drive to SATA 1.

If the factory drive is connected to the SATA 1 port, move it to SATA 0 and connect your new drive to SATA 1.
That is will it have to be formatted differently to work with the Kronos etc. I assume it should be easier as I am not trying to copy all my files due to the fact that I am keeping the original SSD in place.
You will be able to boot as normal and you can go to disk mode, select the new drive and format it.

Sharp.

Reference from Aribo61's excellent photos of the inside of the Kronos, here: https://plus.google.com/photos/10851000 ... 6634846209

Take great care and make sure to route and bundle your cabling carefully. You may also want to visit your fan while you have it open.

No I am getting a ram upgrade and keybed fix so I'm going to ask the same guy to fit this for me to (will pay extra) Official Korg guy that is. I just wanted to know for myself just in case the shop asks me any questions.

I think that the SSD already comes with the necessary sata wire. Anyone have any issues with Intel SSD's?

My fan seems to be fine no noise etc. and due to it being an SSD there shouldn't be any heating problems (no moving parts!).

Intels are good.. over the last 18 months through work I have fitted a lot of SSD's, at first we used OCZ's but all bar one have failed within 6 months. although this was in the early stages (vertex 2/3's) and was only 6 drives but was enough for us to switch to using Intel and Cruicial M4's and none of those have failed yet.. *touch wood*

Thanks mate had no choice as thats the only one the shop carried. SSD's are much more expensive to buy in Malaysia compared to uk/us to.

Yeah, a lot of people in computers and I.T. will tell you to avoid OCZ SSDs.

The last time I was in my local Micro Center store, a kid was asking the salesperson how one of the OCZ Agility drives they had on sale would be for a new PC he was building, and the sales guy even told him, "I would go with anything but an OCZ, personally."

I think the jury is still out on how reliable their current line of SSDs is, but the older models had high RMA rates (as much as 9% or more for some of the Vertex 2 drives).

I believe Intel SSDs are regarded as having some of the lowest failure rates on the market right now - though the drives tend to cost a little more than some of the others.

You could talk to 10 different IT people and they will all likely tell you something different.
Sort of like how most Mac user will tell you Windows always crashes and all that nonsence.

If you know what I mean.

Just in case it helps anyone,

I have both a 60GB and 120GB Corsair SSD in my PC, 60GB for nearly a year, 120GB since January, both constantly hammered, zero problems so far.
