I found that the Kronos responds well when its player has had other brands of beer too! Maybe a poll is in order as to which brand works best?
there are only 2 brands that i really like (and are hard to get in holland)

- Kilkenny
- Molson Ice

I bought a Kronos precisely because I wanted to stop carrying around too much boards. Previously I worked with a Nord Stage, Fantom S and Moog Voyager. Nice setup, but it was just too much.

I play with many sounds in one song. For instance I use hammonds, piano's strings, bells, Taurus bass (programmed in AL1), mellotron samples and one or two lead sounds in every song.

Fortunately, the Kronos is able to do all these things within one combi. For instance, I use the expression pedal to morph between the piano's and hammonds (using two limiters, with mirrored settings), with Karma I can select four different modules each with different soundsets. And of course I use a lot of layering and splits.

I do have a Roland PK5 pedal set to play the Taurus bass and the nanopad for triggering samples.

So it's all possible with only the Kronos. But nevertheless, I was wondering if I could use my EMU longboard (I use that one on the camping :-)) assigned specifically to one chanell, for example strings. But I am not sure if I can do that, since I have only one midi in, and that one is used already by the PK5.

Yes, I have a bunch of keyboards too, including a Nord. They're all great... but as you've pointed out, its the Kronos that does everything! I'm more of a studio musician than a gigging one these days... but when I do gig, all I need is piano, and possibly 1 or 2 other standard patches, so I can get away with just about any board. But if you're a gigging musician with a need for many patches, maybe even KARMA and combi's, you'd be hard pressed to find a better board than the Kronos.

Does your EMU board have MIDI IN? If yes, you can just plug the PK5 into the MIDI IN of the EMU. Just have the EMU transmit on channel 2 and the PK5 on channel 1 (actually, you should be able to assign any channel to either of these). PK5 looks like an awesome pedal board although I've never used one myself.

Kronos is so powerful that it allowed me to simplify my setup quite a lot:
- Removed the Fantom XR from my rack, it didn't add anything next to my Kronos
- Removed the Hammond XM-1 rack module because the CX-3 engine is so much better!
- Since Kronos is now the only sound source, I no longer need my rack mixer
- Since I just removed 3 units of hardware in my rack, I replaced it with a softbag with just 2 units. It only contains my 4-channel DI-rack and some cables.
- I had an Axiom 61 midi controller to play my Fantom XR and the Hammond rack. At first, I kept using it as secondary keyboard using USB... But because of SST and set list mode, I actually managed to replace the secondary keyboard with combi splits.

So, no I'm not doubling my Kronos at the moment...
Old gig setup: Yamaha S90, Roland Fantom XR, Hammond XM-1, M-Audio Axiom 61
2011 gig setup: Korg Kronos 88

An ever reliable Yamaha P80 & the K61 on top.

In church I replace the P80 with a Korg C520 (or occasionally a Steinway C, depending on which location). I have got into the habit of not using the sounds from the C520, just using it as an 88 key controller.

I have Kronos 88 on bottom, Oasys on top, to my right, i have Jupiter 80 on bottom and Vsynth GT on top. I swap out the GT with the Moog xl at times.

I have an awesome set up and can improvise for hours in one sitting in all genres. Using Kronos and drum track makes easy for different improvisations.

I have a Kronos 61 and a Yamaha MOX8 at the bottom that just replaced my Oberheim MC2000 ex.
It's a setup good enough for my small home studio recording and, at the same time, a really portable one (15kg for the MOX 88 it's really awesome).
I think this is the best compromise for me, got a synth action keyboard and a weighted 88 that i like very much, Kronos sounds as well as Yamaha ones for guitars, acoustic instruments ad so on... Both intruments with USB audio card onboard and Mox has a wonderful integration with Cubase (control surfaces and so on).

I'm really satisfied :-)

Cheers,

Alex

Kronos 88 on the bottom, Roland g70 v3 on top and a little used Roland VA7 to the side.

If I had to buy a keyboard and I had none I think I would go for the Roland even though the Korg is just more in most ways.

For me the Guitar mode on the Roland G70 is the greatest thing since sliced bread and allows me to create proper guitar (accoustic, rock, metal) based music that I would struggle do do otherwise.
Rolang VA7, Roland G-70 Ver3, quad core dell lappi with 6gb mem, DAW = Reaper, Amplitube 2,3. Scarlett Fockesrite 18-6, Mackie 1604 mixer, Washburn status 1000 headless bass, Roland 2.1 Monitors, Sunheizer Mic & Monitor headphones, Korg Kronos 88.

Kronos 61 on top,
'79 CX3 in the middle
Doepfer LMK4+ (88 hammer action) on the bottom

The CX3 as well as the Doepfer don't have any controls or screens on the top - so I modified my stand in a way that the three tiers can stand upon each other directly - with no unnecessary spacing in the vertical direction. It's all very compact and tight together ;)
