Whats your fav synth engine in Kronos?

have had mine for only a week, but I think so far my favorite is Mod-7, I think they nailed the 90s digital sound really well. Love the vector joystick! Dig the polysix too, but it still doesnt come close to touching the real thing IMO.

I have to disagree wholeheartedly on the Polysix. My daughter's boyfriend brought over his REAL poly six a few weeks ago and we did a taste test through my $1000 Adams Monitors.

With the exact same settings, it was ever so slightly off. But tweaking the Kronos by EAR to match (Remember the Polysix IS analog afterall) it was INDISTINGUISHABLE. Even in Unison mode! In fact, after awhile the Kronos started to make the Polysix sound thin after awhile tweaking more and it became obvious how it could go far beyond the Polysix in every regard

Hard to say which engine is my "Favorite", easier to say my least favorite(s) which is currently STR-1 and the CX-3 because of the horrible distortion for Rock organ. YMMV of course...

it depends on the style i want to create:
Ambient: HD-1
Dance: AL-1 and MS-20
Old skool sounds (80-ies): MOD-7
Experimental: STR-1
Classic: SGX-1

The one that i don't like is the CX-3, but that's because i hate organ sounds

I like all engines except STR-1, which has an extremely cold and "unnatural" sound for everything string-like in my ears.
My favourtie is EP-1, followed by SGX-1 and the Polysix.

I completely agree with what NuSkoolTone wrote: the Polysix is one of the closest VA emulations of an analog synth which I ever heard (I owned a Polysix many years). Yes, the settings are not 100% identical, but it is easy to get there fine tuning by ear.

For listening and playing, the pianos, both electric and acoustic, are fantastic. I've lost hours, simply playing. For programming, AL-1 is looking a lot more intuitive, alongside the other two traditional synths, but I've scratched the surface of Mod-7, and I have to say that it doesn't think the way I do! I've yet to visit STR and sampling, though re-synthesis opportunities make me start to dribble, and sampling some really complex voices from the sq-80, which really cut down its polyphony, but will be available properly on the Kronos, sounds great, too. (Also feeding the sq-80 through the MS-20 will be fun) Not really interested in the organs..
This machine is so deep, it'll be another couple of years before I'm able to be all over it. Even now, I'm still trying to find time to read the manual again, learn more as I dive in deeper with programming, and find time to actually practise playing, and hopefully improve there.
The two things I'd really like most, are; a whole bunch of youtube how to's (Qui can't be the only one! Come on Korg), and a group of editors optimized for each engine, that show far more programming options on one screen.

Did you watch the webcasts of Rich Formidoni? Korg is the only synth company that uses social media in a great way by offering live webcast streams where you can ask any question to the product specialist and get an instance response on how to do that.

I've watched the previous episodes and there is a lot of information in there to get people started within several areas. I highly recommend watching those Korg webcasts.

So in my opinion Korg is doing a great job supplying the video materials (on your DVD) and the live webcasts to get people started, but also the manuals and the examples in that manuals are a great source of information.

for basic usage my opinion is that almost every area of the Kronos is covered by a tutorial on a basic level. Now the next step could be to dive deeper in the functionality, but this can get rather complex so i'm still not sure if people are waiting for this, it's a lot of work to create tutorials for that and based on the amount of views i don't think i'm going to do that .

The amount of views of a video is a great measurement tool to keep track of which areas are really interesting for people. For instance i saw that tutorials about sampling and KARMA are really popular, so that would be area's to dive deeper into.

Interesting, I own an original polysix. Took such a labor of love of to get it working 100% and I think korg got the essence of it in Kronos, but definitely not a replacement, at least IMO. Ive done one side by side comparison, and still thought original sounded better by a mile. I guess we can agree to disagree

Of course, no one will mind if you carry the reall polysix around with you!

I do agree as it relates to physical modeling of string sounds.....but STR-1 is really great for abstract and ambient pad and atmospheric sounds. It works particularly well with Vector Envelopes. And of all the engines, it has the most available parameters to tweak and modulate sounds into oblivion. Its one of those rare examples of where the original intention of the engine was designed for is less than stellar.....but as an alternative sound design source, its remarkably good!

Favorite engine in my eyes: *probably* Mod7, but AL-1 comes a close second just for sheer diversity of what it can create. Poly6 and MS-20 are just so good its ridiculous....but I lean more towards abstract digital patches. I left HD-1 out.....because, especially now with 2.0, it can be all things to all people....so its not a fair fight!

I love the MS20Ex.

It's a great semi-modular design that is pretty much completely repatchable, unlike some semi-modular designs. And polyphonic!

Also the filters there are insane.

Mod7 seems fun too but I've had less usable results out of it.

Mine are polysix and HD-1. They are awesome =)
