I let it fix by Oostendorp about a month ago. But I still have the "bounce" problem every now and then. It really bothers me......

Then the fix was not correctly applied :?

Obviously you are right. But I was present when they replaced the entire keybed. It was done by Korg themselves. So I don't know, but apparently the replacement is not entirely in order either. It is not a very big deal, and I still love to play on the Kronos (in fact, I am playing hours and hours only with the Kronos German D2, I really love that piano), but the bouncing now and then is annoying.

While I felt a bit depressed, I was confident after reading threads here that I could just return it to the store and they would solve the problem, or send it back to Korg to be fixed.

So I took it the store this morning, but the guy there couldn't reproduce the problem. Mostly because every time he played it, he decided to play fast technical pieces and I think he was concentrating more on his playing than actually listening to the sound, or feeling the response. When I played softly and just the same 5 notes of a scale back and forth, it did indeed "mute" or "stick", but the guy said it was just the way I was playing it. Then he would have another go with hands flying all over the place. He wasn't listening to me and didn't really try to reproduce the problem, instead just trying to impress, or something. So, I tried telling him about this forum and that Korg recognize that this could be a problem on some keyboards, but he went on to say that people are imagining it, etc.

So, bottom line...they won't do anything as they said "it's not a problem but they way I'm playing. They can't fix something that isn't broken".

I don't know what to do.
well, i wouldn't accept it, if they sold you a keyboard that you can't play because that keyboard only can be played with a different technique they should told you that upfront, and explain to you why other keyboards can be played with your technique.

It's nonsense that your technique is wrong. Korg has a solution for that faulty rubbers, so the store have to accept it for repair. Contact Korg support directly and tell them that the music store doesn't take it's responsibility to help you out and ask what to do.
Sorry for the delay. I wanted to wait until I had news to post here.

I went back to the store, but instead of talking to that pratt, I spoke with the boss. It was a totally different experience! The manager was very professional and agreed to replace the Kronos.

So I got a new Kronos yesterday and it doesn't have any problem at all. It's perfect and amazing! :-)

Thanks for your reply!

Got my Kronos back yesterday

Post by donjuancarlos »

After almost 4 months I finally got it back. I did not get a new keybed and it still bounces on some keys. On the up side, however, I have not had any note cut offs.

The super-weird thing is that now it is out of tune. By about a minor third. If someone knows a magical place on the Kronos that changes the pitch besides the Transpose setting in Global Settings, let me know.

Hey there! Just got my replacement 88 Kronos, so far everything seems ok!

1. When and where you had the repair performed
I bought the Kronos 88 (#003469) from B&H in NY, I'm a canadian customer so I took a risk. However their service was EXCELLENT and they replaced it. However, it wasn't in stock anymore when I needed replacement, so I waited 4-5 days and then proceeded with the exchange.

2. Which model (73 or 88 )
Kronos 88

3. Any information you were told about the specific repair made
Item replacement (#003469 for #003987)

4. The results -- did the fix work?
I had the first three keys that clunked : so far it seems ok.
Spacing was very irregular between keys: this one's fine.
I had noisy fan : so far it seems ok.

5. Serial Number (optional)
#003469 --> #003987

I still have the pink contacts, but my serial is way over #003600 so I guess I should be OK and I have the new keybed, right? Near the serial the code K02 is written.

Thanks!

Max

EDIT : have to return the 2nd unit because it shut down suddenly after 20min and I have never been able to power it up again after that. Only the disk led would briefly light up and then nothing... no screen, no leds no sounds... dead! I guess this is a DOA, so I'll post again when I'll get the 3rd unit (2nd replacement) to let you know how it feels.

Just got my Kronos Back from repair
the double note problem seems to be gone
had to do the keybed spacing adjustment cause of a sticking key
wait time in NYC ( dbm audio ) was 4+ months
happy to have a working keyboard but have to say I don't think the keyboard action is too well made ( my yamaha seems much more stable)
but sounds and OS are great and looking forward to exploring the new OS

Just got my 3rd Kronos 88.

First one had clunking and sticky keys, noisy fan and was impossible to play either on low velocity or hard velocity.

Second one was DOA, worked for 20min and then shut down...

Third one, #3936 just arrived today! So far, keys feel better, but it's not as good as it was with my M3-88. Guess I'll have to deal with that. Still have the pink contacts. Came loaded with 1.5.2. Noisy fan, but not as bad as the first one!

Can't after work tomorrow to update to 2.0.2 and FINALLY enjoy this beast of a keyboard :)

BTW, kudos to B&H who had an AWESOME service, even though i'm a canadian customer. They rock, and I ordered few things after that from them. My MDR-V6 rocks with my Kronos!!!

Its not yet clear what the K01 and K02 codes mean, and if they have any kind of relation to the 73/88 keybeds issues.

Besides, the same can be said form the pink contacts, some users have them and they seem to work, while others have them in their units and they fail, so...

No clues, in both cases.

Got my Kronos 88 key back this week.

000585

Paul Mortes Technical Services in Orange CA.

Didn't end up going to the original shop I was talking about previously. I called Customer service and a nice woman named Claudette recommended a place near me and said she would call and pull some strings if they had a long wait time. I paid to overnight the parts and the fix took 2 days. Very satisfied with that aspect of the service. Double note and note cutoff problem is gone. I have to take it back tomorrow because I have a couple keys that are sticking making pianissimo impossible. Should be back in action soon.

I had a repair of my 88 6 weeks ago (it was already a japan keybed), but still have the cut-offs. Less, but they are still there. Now I bought a very stabile keystand to avoid additional vibration. Especially the keys in the bass make problems. For my feeling when you hit the keys they spring back to strong. When you are light playing the one or the other finger can't hold it, so the sound cuts off and comes again very quite.
I claimed again to safe warranty. But I fear this is the best they can do at the moment.

There are users with the fix done who claim not to have the cutt of any more, so is the best they can do at the moment? Not really.

My 2 cents: Claim for your COMPLETE fix, you are entitled to it, or ask for a complete refund.
Regards.
