Fast switching patches or splitting timbres?

Hi all!

I am still fighting my way to finish Somebody told me - The Killers: it's almost done.
Thanks to every little suggestion I've found here I'm quite happy with the result!

I just need a little hint: in this song I use two sounds (a lead and some strings) that need to be switched quite fast.

I can practise and obtain a smooth result but I'd like to understand if I can simply use the same patch with two sounds in it divided by splitting keyboard.

AFAIR (http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electron ... -help.html post number 4) this is impossible.

Any tricks / hints?

This is totally possible. I believe it's in one of the first menus of Timbre 1 ("Voice" maybe?) where you can select a variable whose values are "single", "layer", "split" and something else. This gives you Timbre 2, which means a whole other patch which shares the poly with Timbre 1. You'd want to set this to "split" and define where on the keyboard this split occurs. Note that it's assigned to an actual key, say like C5 (middle C), so if you use the tranpose buttons on the left to raise or lower the keyboard octave, your split will follow that instead of the physical keybed itself. Make sense?

What you wrote totally make sense but if I use layered Timbres on both hands (e.g. Strings and a rich lead) then I can't, right?

Assuming you mean using "layered" mode and having 2 timbres across the whole keyboard, you get 2 timbres per patch so no, you can't. If the string and lead play the same notes at the same time, what you might wanna do is split the keyboard into 2 timbres, then set each oscillator in 1 of those timbres to sound like lead+strings. This is tricky because the 2 OSC's share a lot of properties, but if you can swing it this will work.

my man - if each voice you want to use is a single timbre, then you only have three convenient options:

Page 1 - make it layer, have a voice in each timbre, and then play with whatever voice you want solo-ed by holding Shift + press the timbre. This is the two finger method, so as long as you can spare a hand for a second, you have an instant switch

Page 1 - make it Split, with both voices as timbres, and put the split note on something stupid like C -1. If you leave page 1 open, when you want to switch, make sure you have time to sweep that knob straight up to G 9, and you switch voices. If you wanna use a knob instead.

Page 1 - if you've got a MIDI controller, then you can switch instruments without touching a button or knob on the synth to switch synths.

The first one, layer, makes the most sense to me.
