Kronos vs the Kronos X for me?

Hi All

I was originally looking at a krome to replace my 11 year old triton pro (still works fantastic). i am NOT a keyboard player, i am a guitar player singer songwriter with a home studio who still uses the triton for string patches and to control soft synths via midi

right now sweetwater has a really nice deal on an original kronos

i look at the X and the original and keep thinking i dont need all the X has, heck i wont use 80% of the original.

but since i buy a keyboard once a decade and this deal came up is there anything to even consider the X ? its now substantially more money

can i upgrade an original Kronos to be close anyway? i think i read that here

i am one of those, find some great presets and use them, one track at a time, maybe tweak some small parameters in them

i dont sample, or play live, or record into a keyboard at all

however l love my triton and KORG and when i saw this i really wanted to make sure i wont miss a ton without gettin an X

so any thoughts from you all would be great!

I would get the X. You'll be happy in the long run. And you can grow with it.

I just bought an original Kronos last week. I *am* a keyboard player and like you, update about once a decade. But... there is nothing about the X that can't be done to the original, and over time, the upgrades will be considerable cheaper. If your warranty has hence expired, the extra RAM and second SSD drive are simple upgrade, no more difficult than upgrading a PC. (Which is fundamentally all the Kronos is.) And that means you save a whole bunch of cash now, and get that time until you might need the enhancements to await a cheaper price, while learning if indeed you really need them at all.

I agree with you guys, but if trock do not like to edit patches a lot, and do not want to sample things or is simply not interested to know how to program 9 different synth engines, is a Kronos necessary for him ?

You can save the half if you go for a Krome. Sounds quite good and sequencer is better than Kronos.

If you're going to use strings presets, try to listen some Roland and Yamaha keyboards too.

Save the money and get the original. You can upgrade the original to out speck the X. Big deal your boot up time is SLIGHTLY faster its still long as s**t regardless. The board is not faster at all, they say it is but it is not. What makes it faster is the ram and more storage, which is a quick ram swamp and new SSD drive you got a X88. It's the exact same engines, same sounds same everything. BUT the X88 uses laptop memory and changed a few things to make tweaking a tid harder.

End result save way more with original, easier to service and upgrade, and wait for it........ITS CHEAPER no brainer discussion over

i have never had a yamaha or roland board but i do mostly use natural sounds, like strings, pads etc to enhance acoustic or acoustic based rock or country music.

does anyone think these other brands are actually better for that? i did read that the XF board is way behind kronos in terms of tech parts.

i guess i never thought about it because my triton has never let me down and i am pretty dedicated to quality and like the KORG stuff

Yamaha never update their tech parts of synthesis since long time.. trying to beat the same bush.. Also IMO, Yamaha and Roland synths are not so user friendly compared to Korg.

Roland is good if you add in their SRX or ARX cards as factory sounds sucks... Yamaha is good in maintaining the originality of naturally sounding instruments like guitars, woodwinds etc...

I agree with Night Spirit and Scoobydoo555, get the original and upgrade it
if you wish. Also, if you see any after market sounds that you want, you can eventually get them also. Good luck.

one question i have is, i used the triton to control soft synths when needed thru 2 midi cables to an old midi card. now with USB can i control them thru USB?

you can tell its been a LONGGGGGG time since i got anything new
