Sending MIDI control messages with selection of combi?

I'm beginning to pair my Kronos 61 with a Casio PX-350.

My goal is to put together a number of combis, one for each song, then use the Korg's setlist feature to organise them and then work through them on the gig.

I had hoped to use the Casio's on board piano sound (if nothing else, to save on polyphony), and just have each Kronos combi either mute or enable it. The obvious solution would have been to build a registration on the Casio which was silent, and another with just piano, and switch between them using an outgoing patch-change message issued by the Kronos combi.

However, the problem is, it looks like this isn't possible on the Casio - there are volume controls available for the "layer" sound etc but there doesn't seem to be a way of controlling the "main" sound apart from the volume knob.

Another possibility might be the "Local Control" switch on the Casio, which should be possible by sending CC 122=1/0, however I can't figure out whether this can be done within a combi. Any ideas about the best way of going about this?

Put the Casio on a different MIDI channel.

When you want to use it, you include an EXT timbre on the Kronos which matches that MIDI channel.

I think that is what you are trying to do, but I'm not sure. You want to play the Casio sound from the Kronos keyboard, right? I'm not sure otherwise why you would want to mute it (if you're not using it, just don't play it).

I got the impression the OP was wanting to play the piano sound from the Kronos 61 from the weighted keyboard of the Casio on some songs and possibly use the Casio internal piano on its own to save polyphony on other tunes. Maybe I misunderstood them.

Perhaps if you just viewed the Casio as a MIDI controller and only used Kronos sounds it would be soo much simpler. This is how I do it with a Yamaha P-80. Otherwise you may just have to use the volume control on he Casio to turn its sound on and off.

Oh, here's a possibility. I believe you can run the Casios audio into the Kronos. I don't know which but certain program engines can accept external audio. You should be able to make combi's that can combine the Casio audio with other sounds. That way the Casio sound would always be triggered from its own keyboard. The Casio could also trigger Kronos sounds when you wanted by setting the MIDI channels to match it.
