Monotribe MIDI as a Bass Module for EMX
I'm thinking of getting the MIDItribe upgrade for my monotribe, and I was wondering if anyone had experience using it as a dedicated bassline from another sequencer. Since I always use the same EMX Synth Part for my main bass, I was wondering if the tone of the EMX bass would generally be complimentary or compete with the sound of the EMX's bass. Really specific question but maybe someone has experience with this, or even thoughts they could chime in with.
Just picked up a monotribe and was thinking about doing the same thing with my EMX (using synth-part 5 to control it). With the midi-adapter you should have no problems doing it. The drums (which I can't see using) are on MIDI channel 10 and the synth is MIDI channel 1. I don't think you can control the VCF cutoff and peak via MIDI, though.

Yeah I watched the Sonic Lab review on the MIDItribe and they mentioned the lack of MIDI cutoff/res, which almost makes me wish I'd held out for a Mopho but I actually really like the portability of the 'tribe with my SP-202+monotron.
I'm thinking it would be best to leave the cutoff almost closed and make a really low sub-bass in tandem with Synth 2 (the proper arbitrary bassline FYI...coming from an ESX, Part 5 is the natural Audio-In
). From there you could just tweak the filter and jam on the ribbon in wide mode to make things live. It would be fun to have the drums correspond to the MX's drum parts just for lulz.
If you haven't already, you should try the "rim hit sent to 3/4 out to sync" trick in the interm to sync the monotribe! If it doesn't work, max the rimshot's volume and reduce its EG time to make it click.

It works brilliantly. I installed the miditribe mod (just the midi in) and it couldn't be simpler. By default the EMX will send drum parts 1, 3 and 6 to the monotribe kick, snare and hihat. Synth part 1 controls the monotribe's synth line.
The timing is perfect (no latency) and it plays in tune. You will love it. If you haven't already, upgrade to monotribe V2 so you can use the S&H.
Also, when I use it (which is every time I use the EMX), I disable the internal sequecer of the monotribe (press Gate Time + 1) so that it is solely controlled by the EMX.
