Help: is M3 fun for me who don't like hiphop, house, etc?
Hi,
I have the Motif XS6 for a few years and recently bought the Korg Microstation. Now I am very much thinking about buying the M3 XP 73. What I hear and read makes me very positive about the M3.
One of my thinking points: the combi's and Karma GE's (and other stuff?) are they not very much leaning towards hiphop/techno/house/dance in the M3? I prefer more kind of rock/pop/newage combi's and Karma GE's.
Anyone can please comment on this?
Do you think the hiphop (house, etc.) style (which I definitely don't like) is perhaps the vast majority of the stuf in the M3 ? Or is it also fun for someone who doesn't like that stuff?
Kind regards,
Luther

i often use M3 as main sound source for mine songs and i am very far from hip hop and similar.
M3 si really good to symphonic, synth, soundscape too. only little bit weak points are guitars and brass to me

I'm with you too. I took it as a challenge and have developed a special combi set exactly for this purpose. I can say that m3 is perfect for creating ballads, rock, jazz, pop, acoustics, piano songs etc. too.

Korg workstations have been very popular in the rock arena (and particularly for example Prog Rock, which tends to be a bit more keyboard-oriented) and I'd say the M3 is no exception.

Hi all, Thanks a lot for your comments!!
So I understand that my worries in the style departement are not realistic, and the M3 can be great for a wide range of tastes. Nice! My mind is tweaking itself towards a buy.
Happy to hear that the M3 is still "alive" so to speak, considering the hype of the Kronos.
(Off topic: I played the Kronos in the musicstore about a year ago and was really impressed with how it looks, but not with the sounds. Especially the piano sounded somewhat thin to me. And the interface looked too complicated. The M3, seems to me, can be as complicated as you want it to be: you can keep it simple, but also go deep if you want to.)

Luther,
I was unimpressed too, until I listened in headphones instead of through the sadly unresponsive zero-fidelity P.O.S. keyboard combo amp on the floor which was pointed at my knees.
I sometimes wonder why music stores do this with some of their best merchandise, and the only reason I can come up with is that they want to make the good stuff sound mediocre so their mediocre stuff has a chance to sell, too.
----------
In my family we use the math term LCD (least common denominator) to describe the worst possible reduction of a product still (barely) worthy of the name... There's grandma's secret recipe fried chicken, commercial fried chicken, and dead bird in a bucket... LCD.
There are stellar keyboard amps, good keyboard amps and LCD's. Don't let the amp convince you of the sound - or lack thereof - unless you get to be part of the choice.
If you're a serious buyer ask to hear it through a PA set-up. Or bring your own phones.
