Help with live setup

Post by rmdrent »

Hi all,
Had a club gig and ran m50 to main house board via L and R outputs..
Audiance sound was great, but I couldn't hear squat through the stage monitors over the rest of the band...we are scheduled at another large club next month and I want to bring one of my QSC K10's as a monitor... How do I send a balanced L and R to the house board and a single mono to my monitor without damaging anything... Yes I want to send a stereo signal to the house system as I have many stereo patches...not sure if I can split the main outputs, or use headphone out, or somehow run to the QSC and then on to the house system? Any ideas?
Thanks

Run one channel through the QSC on the front end - you don't need the full mono mix in the monitor - and then out from the QSC to the board. Just make sure the sound tech matches the levels between each channel, since the line out from M50 is unbalanced, while the line out from the K10 is a balanced XLR. You can even up that disparity up front by running the line from the M50 through a D.I. box before it hits the house board.

Normal procedure would be to send the M50 main outs via a DI box to the FOH mixer/console and have the sound tech send you a pre-fader AUX to your monitor. You'd have to ask the tech to adjust your volume.

Alternatively: run the LINK output of the DI into your powered monitor. You'd have to use the volume control on the back of the QSC.

Ideally you'd have a mini mixer within reach on stage to be able to control your own monitor level, with M50 going into a stereo channel, mixer main outs going to FOH and a pre-fader AUX to the monitor.

I have JBL monitors, and I run the output of my synth to a JBL input, and the JBL output to the DI in, and DI out to the PA.
