My faith in Korg is restored ( I have another keybed problem
Moderators: Sharp, X-Trade, Pepperpotty, karmathanever
It had three problems:
1. Noisy fan - They have replaced the fan for me.
2. Note cutouts when playing softly - From what I can see from the report they didn't check this.
3. Inability ro reach 127 velocity on curve 9 and 4 or less - Report says that they could reach 127, it didn't say what curve the engineer was using though.
I have asked the dealer to test it and see what they think, if they agree with me then hopefully it can go back to Korg again.

I would contact Korg yourself and explain the situation. From what I've experienced, while it's been a pain for me, they do seem to care (see my next post) and then you can talk to the engineers directly.BobTheDog wrote:It had three problems:

My faith in Korg has been restored
This morning Korg UK phoned me up and I had a 30 minute chat with Gareth Underwood.
He explained how the Managing Director was up until 3am reading all my emails etc and took the way I as a customer feel, very very seriously.
The MD was not happy with my experience and takes how the customer perceives Korg Uk very very seriously.
Due to my written account, the MD is looking at changing some of their internal procedures to improve things so that hopefully no one else has to go through this.
He also explained that they were just as annoyed as I was that my original Kronos had not been updated as they had paid a lot of money for an engineer to upgrade all their existing stock, and mine should have had the upgraded contacts. It obviously didn't, so he must have skipped one.
The MD has offered to send their demonstrator out to my house for a personal training session on my new Kronos X when I get it as a way of saying sorry for all I have experienced.
That is some offer. However, I've declined as I know my way around good enough really, can read manuals fine so to a point he would be wasting his time. Sure I could learn a few things, but I also don't know how my health would be on the day, and having a set time for someone turning up tp train me is in its self draining for me.
But I really really appreciate the gesture and his conversation with me shows Korg UK does really really care about it's customers.

Good news to hear. Shows me a commitment to customer service rarely seen these days. Thanks for sharing.Ojustaboo wrote:My faith in Korg has been restored

As comented above, IMHO, do not let the dealer to handle this for you.BobTheDog wrote:It had three problems:

Chances are that de do not check it all properly, as me and others are confirming through threads like this one.
Better contact and handle it all yourself with the Korg Distrubutor in your country.
Do what I did, as an example.
I went there directly to show them first hand the troubles the four Kronos they exchanged to me had.
Once they saw them, they had to acknowledge the faulty cut off notes and different velocity in keys was already there, in the models they replaced me one after another.
Then, arrange YOURSELF a pleasant solution for you as acostumer with them directly, do not let that task to your local dealer.
Get a new unit, a full refund or whatever its best for you and your peace of mind.
Regards.

I did contact Korg directly, they told me I had to go through the dealer.
So I printed out a page of instructions showing how to replicate the issues I had and stuck that in the box, I don't know if they looked at it though.
This time I will get the Kronos back and make a video showing the issues I have and I will post it here to see if other people think it is abnormal, then I will send that video to Korg and see what they say.

I'm also pleased that some faith has been restored for Ojustaboo and hope all will be well with the new keyboard.
(When is the expected delivery ? ).
As stated in previous posts,I was in a similar purchasing situation and had a Kronos from Korg stock.
I have asked them for any confirmation that it has the upgraded contacts and am waiting for a reply, which usually is quite quick.
My current concern is……will they know which have had the update,or not and how can anyone tell post install….??….
Having one slip the process may be acceptable, but it begs the question of how many others have also slipped by,with an added
twist in finding them out there.
.
However,if ever I do have any problems,I'm reasonably confident that a suitable solution will be applied.
Probably will choose the dealer route though,as that would be more convenient for me and also it is they I have a contract with, according to Sale Of Goods Act
here in the UK.
It is not the norm to have direct contact with manufacturers, usually, but it is a very welcomed concession from Korg, despite the hassle that may be involved.
Best Wishes All.

The first batch of 88 kronos X arrived at some point yesterday and when I spoke today were in a container waiting to be checked into their warehouse.
Andertons has an expected in stock date on their website of next Monday, so I'm hoping PMT get mine sometime next week also.
I initially emailed both Korg and PMT when I first got my cutoff problem as I wanted to make sure I went through the dealer so the sale of goods act applies if needed.
As I had spoken to Korg about my new Kronos before it was dispatched to my dealer (while they upgraded it), they offered to get it picked up from me to save me a trip to my dealer, all info was copied to my dealer, my dealer was happy for me to go that route, it was just an extra gesture from Korg.
I agree dealer is the way to go in the UK, but that is what I did really, just saving myself the trip.
If I understood what I was told correctly, the initial batch of replacement contacts were bought in blue deliberately, just to help the engineers keep them separate from the original pink ones, but they don't have to be blue.

Thanks for the update on delivery and for the other info.
In my view, keybed contact colours have certainly been misleading for many Kronos owners into thinking that all the exchanged ones needed to be blue.
As said, this may not be the case and the pink ones from a correct spec batch, will suffice.
Probably identification marks are not readily legible and having an alternative "quick look" checking method is easier,as would be on an assembly
line during manufacture.
I am assuming that it was meant to be for the short term anyway and the latest batches of contact rubber strips could either be pink or even grey.
My initial thoughts were that the colour actually had some reference to their hardness, which related to response / feel etc, perhaps the colours are not that relevant after all and only the part identification coding itself actually carries the information,or reference to their properties.
All of which can be recorded during the upgrade install as a matter of workshop routine.
Post installation of replacement contacts would be difficult to identify purely based on their colour, which means that owners will never really know
which ones they have, but the installer should.
I may well be totally wrong,of course……
Not much longer to wait,then........and finally......??.....Let's hope......
Best Wishes.

An update to my own keybed contact findings.
Asked Korg UK and they have confirmed my Kronos has the updated contacts, which are pink.
They also explained that the colours went from original pink to blue, then back to pink again.
Both blue and the latest pink are the revised ones.
I don't have any key velocity problems,so far,(even though I can't ever reach the 127 mark, except on the setting 5)…..but do have other questions.
Without hijacking this particular thread or changing the specific topic too much, I think my questions are keybed linked.
It is difficult to try to explain,so please bear with me.
Realising that the German Piano voice is a sample and is stereo spanned across the keybed etc, whenever I play certain higher notes, some are panned more to the right, but further up a few go the opposite way, while others are in the centre.
Is this normal ?
Sonically,it sounds reasonable, a couple do have a touch of harshness, but that may well be just me,though.
The other question regards the weighted feel of the whole keybed.
It is meant to be graded, heavier along the lower part and lighter toward the higher etc….yes…??…
How can this be measured ?
I can't feel nor detect much difference………but…..having being a piano player, many years ago,it may well be that I've simply re-adopted the feel in a natural way and somehow overriding the effect.
Must add that it does play fine,as far as I can tell, that is……just curious.
Best Wishes.

I am now the proud owner of a new Kronos X 88
Initial tests show all to be perfect but wont have time to try out until tomorrow
A few observations.
The contacts are pink, so that puts to bed once and for all the theory that if they aren't blue, they are the old style, and ties in with what Korg Uk told me that they specifically ordered blue ones initially to help keep them separate from the older ones.
The keybed feels completely different and my black keys have yet again a different texture, they're not smooth, matt black, best way I can describe is if you used a can of matt black paint, the slight stippling effect it would leave.
The keys are slightly stiffer to press, best way I can describe is that it's like there's some slight resistance when pressing, sort of like I'm pressing my hand flat down through water, but don't take that the wrong way, by slight, I mean very slight.
But the main thing that stands out is that each and every key is perfectly spaced.
All in all a superb improvement and I'm very very happy, at last I can finally get to play without nay worries or off puting things.
I've taken 7 pics with the camera pointing in the gaps of C3 to C4 to show you how even the gaps are. Finally I've tried to take a pic showing the texture of the black keys, but the camera hasn't taken it very well, however the low light effect caused by the camera shows exactly what the black key texture is like anyway
