this can't be right??

Post by soundsailer »

korg just gave me a new kronos for a warranty replacement. it had the older OS installed and the first thing I noticed was the karma wouldn't work from the control panel. so I loaded the new os and the karma controls seem to work fine but when I record a karma sequence then go back to edit some changes in the recording it records the changes, the sliders move during playback, but it doesn't alter the sounds, I can see the changes I made but not hear them !!!

NOW I also have this issue too........

in sequencer mode when I make a change to any of the perameters of a layered sound it changes all the perameters at once. it does this during live recording changing volume levers or adding the changes after the tracks have been recorded.... This can't be right...

I normally use my daw for sequencing so I'm not sure what's up here, but how can you record multiple instruments at the same time then sequence individual changes to parameters afterwards, I can't even adust the volume levels of individual tracks........... and yes multi track rec. is turned on......

Are all those tracks on the same midi channel? That might be your problem. If you need to record multiple instruments on one channel, split them afterward.

Thanks for responding

yes there on the same channel, that's the only way I can get this thing to record multi channels at once, the multi channel record has no effect, it only records which ever channel is selected ? ouch, the daw's do that seamlessly, so no recording combi's and adjusting individual, volumes on the fly?

Sounds like a chat with product support would be useful; see the link in my signature.

a chat? enlighten me, I'm I doing something wrong, can you make changes to a sequenced karma after it's recorded? because I can't, can you layer sounds and record them at the same time and make perameter changes either on the fly or after recording?

You don't mention what type of changes you are trying to make to a sequenced Karma track and yes you can layer and record sounds at the same time but if they're all on the same midi channel any parameter changes will affect all timbers on that channel.

I can't record ANY karma changes, I overdub changes to a sequence from the karma controls and when I go to play back I see the controls moving but it doesn't record the changes.......
and I can't record multiple programs, l arm to rec. multiple tracks, I have record multi. on but it only sounds and records the midi track that it's set on, I can only record multi tracks if they are using the same midi channel

When you record a KARMA performance you are recording the resulting notes, not the actions that triggered them.

So when you play back the track, KARMA is not actually doing anything! So the control changes you are attempting to record (assuming you are talking about the KARMA scene controls, sliders, etc) won't do anything.

On some previous synths with an arpeggiator, you could choose to record the input or the result, but this isn't possible with KARMA.

Just a thought (and maybe a workaround). Can you not record all the Karma data into the internal sequencer on the Kronos using the "one-touch record" feature and then add any other parts you may want? I haven't tried this myself on my Kronos (which is packed up ready for a NYE gig tonight) but I seem to remember doing this on my M3.

Then, you could export the internal sequencer contents to a stereo audio track in your DAW of choice and build even more on it at that point. Not the most elegant of solutions in that you would not be able to modify the Karma events in your DAW but at least you would have them in there and could proceed. Just a thought. Hope it can be helpful.

If you record the combi to a track in your DAW then you can apply all the ccs, parameter changes, volumes etc.. I suggest you read the Wiki on KLF regarding recording procedures, this, it will get you up to speed ..

I love my Kronos...... I'm sure it's user error ( again ! ) I just need to get my work flow sorted out and understand the limitations I'm dealing with using the sequencer....... Thanks again and Happy New Year :D

You should be able to record KARMA output into the sequencer, and record up to 16 different MIDI tracks at once. However, notes from the internal sequencer cannot be processed by KARMA. For more info, see "Using KARMA in Sequencer mode" in the Operation Guide.

I suggested talking with product support because I think it will be an effective way for you to get up and running with the KRONOS. Call them and see!

Hope this helps,
